When a HD tv is $850 then I will get a HD tv . They are way too expensive . I am on a fixed income .

I agree.

Coughing up $2-3-4 Grand or more for a tv plus another grand for the STB is insane, pretty picture or not. After all, it's only TV, and there's still not much to watch!

"...the SAT-HD200 set-top box will be available in September for about $900."

Look at it this way:

How long do you keep your average TV 10-15 years?

You can pay $20/yr for a $300 27" analog TV
or
You can pay $130/yr for a $2000 46" HDTV + rcvr?

You pay $360+/yr for Sat Svc.

and you dont want to pay an additional 36% for the best television environment you can get that you can enjoy for a decade plus?

Seems crazy to me not to :)

Housed in a stylish brushed silver chassis to complement Sony's latest line of FD TrinitronŽ WEGAŽ flat-screen direct view and rear projection television sets

See it is pretty! Isn't that worth $400?

Depends where you live. I have access to 6 local digital channels and 4 of them broadcast HD. Of the other 2, one is strictly SD digital and the other is FAUX Widescreen and off Dish I get HBOHD and DIscovery HD (for 1 more day anyway:( ). There are many evenings now when I have more than 1 choice of which HD content to watch.

On Saturday 8/17 there were multiple HDTV Choices in the Twin Cities:

NBC - Loving You
ABC - Speed 2
HBO - Don't Say A Word
SHO - Enemy At the Gates

I didn't even have a chance to check out what HDNET had on. There were way too many choices. Hard to explain why people keep saying there is no content. I just am lucky enough to have all of our local stations broadcasting OTA in Digital.

Does it make the movie any better?

Probably not.
