I need to find out how to tune in on Telstar 5 @ 97.0 W to get the channels that come in as 20.000 symbol rate and 3/4 FEC. Will the receiver lock onto the satellite like it does on expressvu, 61.5, 110, 119, 148 ? Will there be any bar going across indicating a signal for Telstar 5 ?
What I am trying to do is get a HomeSat dish signal in at that location which I know uses different values than that but figured that if I got the Dish receiver tuned into that satellite then I could then I could disconnect the wire and connect the HomeSat receiver (H21002R) to come in which is a MPEG-2 DVB receiver. It is a pain in the but trying to get a lock on the signal quality for the right satellite and never had such rough luck. It is used for the Bob Jones University Home Schooling. I am using the dish and lnb that is provided with their receiver.
I have been wanting to tune in those satellites and see what all was up there anyways so have been wanting to bring in what I can with a Dish Network satellite receiver on other slots.
How do I know what transponder to put it on the dish network receiver to tune in the channels? How do I know what channels to tune it into? Will there be a program guide listing the channels I would get? How do I go about this?

The Dish that you are trying to use may be too small. I believe that a 1 meter dish is the samallest that you can use. I seriously doubt that a Dish receiver will lock on this satellite

I am using the 1 meter dish as provided by HomeSat with that receiver and there are channels that use the same FEC and Symbol Rate as the Dish Network receiver. Just finding the satellite and knowing that I am on it is the issue.
I also have a Ku Band VideoCypher receiver that works with it as well, but dont know which channels are coming in as wild feeds at the time at which they are up on the satellite. If I knew this then I would know what satellite I am at.
Is there a webpage listing the current wildfeeds in real time (not delayed by several days or weeks or months bc wild feeds come and go) so that way I can find what channels are on what satellite and find out what satellite I am on? The receiver does not indicate the satellite.
As far as the DISH Network receiver receiving the FTA channels, it is not likely it will find the channels, since it is not set up as an FTA receiver, but rather for a specific service. Which means it likely will not find info to set up the channels in the proper place.
You are correct about wildfeeds coming and going. There are no fixed wildfeeds on Telstar 5 Ku and it is not the busiest satellite in this respect, but there is some traffic on it. Probably will be at its peak shortly.
Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/ and join the "backhaul" group and specify individual emails. You will receive an email as each feed is found and posted. Warning: Do not ask questions on this group as it is a group which provides info on feeds as they are found and the entire sky is searched for feeds. There is enough traffic, and requests to find a specific feed are not welcome and just clutter up an already busy service. For the most part info on analog feeds is all that is provided and the emphasis is on sports not news.

I don't know how anybody could keep track of "wildfeeds" in reatime but here's a page that shows what services are FTA & in the clear: Free TV USA (http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/United-States.shtml)

If you have a Homesat dish (30"), you can lock signal on T5 with an echostar IRD. However, you can only get 1 transponder with the echostar IRD (11898V), the one with Nile TV, Palestinian Satellite Channel, EDTV, Dubai Sports and Saudi 1. Tune to transponder 13 (?) on the Dish receiver. The channels ranges from 200 to 215(?).
As you know, all the transponder parameters on a Dish IRD are fixed, so you can only get the transponder on T5 that happens to match one of the fixed transponder parameters. 11898V is just one of those happen to match.
