View Full Version : Potential Dish customer - can the 622 do this????
Hello all - the Dish customer service team has me terribly confused. Currently I am a DTV subscriber, but would like to switch to Dish.
My current setup is as follows - I have a HD RPTV that is being fed by DTV's HD DVR. Our second non-HD tv is connected to a DTV non-HD DVR. Basically wec an record three shows at the same time (sickness).
I thought the 622 was comparable to the DTV HD DVR (HR10) in this way. The HR10 has two tuners, being fed two separate coax lines. Thus I can record two programs at the same time with the HR10. I can also watch a pre-recorded show while also recording two new shows. The guys at Dish told me the 622 cannot do this. According to them the 622 has two tuners, but one is for a HD TV and the other tuner is for a standard TV. Simply, can the 622 feed both tuners into one HDTV? If so, can these tuners both record HD programming?
Is this correct? Ultimately, I would like to have the 622 on my HDTV, and a separate DVR on the second TV (non-HD).
Confused yet? I am:grin:

The 622 has 2 sat tuners and 1 ota. It can run in SINGLE or DUAL mode. Single mode is for 1 tv, you can record 2 things at once(3 if you count OTA). Dual mode is if you are running another TV off the 622(total of 2 tvs), this way the other tv uses up one of the tuners, so only 1 is left for the origional tv.
Short answer: It can do what you want it to do.

Thx for the concise response. The Dish rep I was talking to insisted the 622 could not do this.
All of the tuners in the 622 are HD - 2 satellite & 1 OTA. The outputs are 1 HD & 1 SD.
The 622 definitely CAN record up to 3 HD programs at one time (2 Sat and 1 OTA) at least in single user mode. I have done this at least a couple times.
Thanks for the replies everyone. BAsed on your feedback I went ahead and became a Dish customer:)
I just hope that series 1000 antenna isnt TOO big.:nono2:

I'm a new member as well (about a month or so) and they installed 2 dish 500's. You can ask the installer for the 500's if you prefer those. Might wanna call ahead of time, just to make sure that he brings them.

What a timely question; I too am considering becoming a Dish customer. I think we must have spoken to the same CSR at Dish -- most frustrating!!! When I mentioned to her that my current Comcast HD-DVR would allow me to do that, she retorted with "Cable isn't 100% digital!! Why would anyone want cable?"
I simply thanked her for her time and hung up. To be honest it was quite a disappointing first impression. However, I called a local installer today and got the correct information regarding the single user mode. I think I am headed over to his store later today to sign up.

Right about now you'll be lucky if the 622 allows you to watch or record anything with the issues popping up. I can't believe that providers are still feeding people that "digital" BS. A 90% compressed .jpg file that barely resembles anything is also "100% digital" that mean absolutely nothing, and if the CSRs don't know that, shame on them, if the general public still thinks that means something, shame on them.
I wouldn't ever believe anything a $5.95 an hour (if in USA, probably about $.05 an hour in India) CSR told me. I assume they know absolutely nothing and am rarely let down. Don't get me started on the Blockbuster workers who don't know the difference between widescreen, HD, and anything else for that matter.

WoW.. Someone isn't happy with their 622 :)
Having had a 622 since they first came out, I have to say all in all I am pretty satisfied with it.. Now Dish and their software updates is an altogether differrent story. But having said that, I wouldn't trade my 622 for anything that Dish, DirecTV or the cable company could throw at me.. It's still the best product out there in my humble opinion..
I see every product both Dish and DirecTV send out at one time or another. I install for both. And the interface and user friendlyness of the 622 is miles ahead of the rest. For those of you that have been around you know with either company that they have sold some dogs to us in the past. I remember Dish Player. The software issue will solve itself down the road. Every new product that comes out has initial software issues.. I hated the DP322 and 522 when they came out. They kept crashing.. But after a few trials with software they became pretty stable platforms.. The 622 will right itself if you give it time..
I just hope that series 1000 antenna isnt TOO big.:nono2:It is maybe a little larger than the Phase III dish from D*; considerably smaller than the new D* dishes.

I 100% agree with you on that!
The disappointing thing about DISH Net is that they have a Fantastic Receiver, Incredible Content and ABYSMAL Customer Support. I guess 2 out of 3 isn't bad, but if the Customer Support doesn't improve they may start losing a lot of people. It's a shame that this forum provides better support than E* does! Not everybody knows about this site so I'm sure there are a LOT of very frustrated E* customers out there.
I hope you got a ClubDish referral number.
Not sure if I understand what tghis means:confused:
