View Full Version : Getting fed up with HR20
Each day with this supposed "wonder box" I get more and more frustrated. Since the latest software update, this wonderful box is arbitrarily cancelling scheduled recordings. Only way to override the cancellations is to manually record in the channel guide. Called D* last night and spoke to a very nice female level 2 tech support person. She said they are being inundated with complaints from new owners of the HR20. They are aware of every problem and she seemed pretty knowledgable of all the reported problems and also seemed familiar with all the online discussion of their "wonder box." She said they will be sending another software update in a week to ten days that will address (hopefully) many of the problems pople have reported. She didn't know when the OTA tuners were going to be activated, but believed it would be sooner rather than later.
All I know is that my 4 year old Hughes DVR40 is so far superior a box (so far**) to this HR20, it is a joke. D* obviously rushed this product to market. Oh, how I wish they stuck to the Tivo software.

I know folks have issues but I've only had one with audio drop outs that was fixed with the first software upgrade. Since then its worked like a charm. I think the issues are definately there but I question folks that are getting the unit immediately after release. Did you think it wouldnt have bugs? I kept my HD TIvos knowing being an early adopter would be fraught with issues and bugs. So far, its performed better then expected but I certainly didnt expect the first month to be spotless.
I didn't expect it to be without minor issues either. However, there are many MAJOR issues that have popped up for many people. You are lucky so far, but I would bet that you, too, will be victimized by more porblems in the coming days and weeks. Believe me, I want so badly for this box to be great. I think over time it will be. But right now, it is clear that D* simply did not test this product enough before releasing it.

I wonder if its specific to your local market. I've only setup about 8 season passes as tests and all are recording as planned. Or maybe there are just bum units out there. Now I have not pushed the unit since I rely on the HD Tivo to do 90% of my recording.

My frustration is mounting more also. I've got my 3rd box coming now from D* because the first 2 were unusable. My 2nd one lasted 12hrs. then locked up after skipping recordings, losing channels arbitrarily, and even refusing to restart.
I'm going to buy one next week.
I hope I don't have many porblems.:)
I love Tivo, and still do. I got my 2 HR20 9 days ago. I have kept my HR10 activated for OTA HD and allowing myself to warm up to the new machines. Maybe I had low expectations, but I think I actually are happy enough with the new machines that I am about to deactivate my HR10. Of course there are minor issues, but I no longer have major complaint since I figured out the MPEG4 issues I had was not with HR20 but the encoding.

No troubles here at all. But then I don't have MPEG4 locals either.
