Just wondering if anyone else had this problem.

Just received the 622 today. I have my OTA going directly into the 622 via the RG-6. The 622 is connected to my TV via monoprice HDMI. Anyway, I could swear the picture quality was much better when I had the OTA connected directly to my TV. Also, my CBS local OTA says its signal strenght is between 98-100% however it breaks up often (approx once every 30 sec). Any suggestions?

Thank you

If you just received and connected your ViP622 today... you may not realize that for compatibility purposes it ships configured to default to 480i output.

I don't have a ViP so I can't walk you through the conversion if it isn't obvious... but somewhere in the menu system should be a configuration for display options so you can select either 720p or 1080i output for your receiver.

That is most likely why you are seeing a lower quality picture right now than directly into your TV.

Someone else may be able to speak better to the break-up issues you mention.

I have the same break up problem on a couple of my OTA channels also. Signal level is 97 - 100. I suspect it is a software issue with the 622 but don't really know yet. It's too new a problem. Didn't happen until just recently. If you think it's bad watching live you will really love watching a recorded show off of OTA. If it is a software issue then it will get addressed and fixed. But Dish needs to hear about it from many people

The 98-10% signal strength is only one component needed to receive OTA. If you're in a metropolitan area(IE tall buildings) or an area with reflective surfaces(IE hills or tall trees) the OTA receiver will not be able to demodulate the signal correctly all the time.

I have tall trees in my location, but was able to cut a clear path to the HD towers since they were my trees(not an option for most). I also used a directional antennae to cut down on the reflections coming from the opposite direction.

It's interesting you had the biggest problem with CBS as that was the problem station for me. In my case the 622 OTA receiver was slightly better than my TV's built in OTA receiver.
