View Full Version : Does 6.3(a) HAVE a Favorites List?

Finally got 6.3a installed today on my HR10-250, and I am a bit puzzled. I have never used the Favorite Channels List, so it is not an important feature for me — but the feature appears to have been removed in this release. I understood from "Release Notes" that the Favorites List would become empty (and mine was empty anyway). But I cannot find any way in 6.3a to enter a Favorite Channels List at all!
Under "Channel Settings", where "Channels You Receive" and "Favorite Channels" used to be, there is now just "Channel List", which turns out to perform the "Channels You Receive" function. There is no way (that I have been able to discover) to enter a "favorites" list. However, the guide can still be configured to "All", "Channels You Receive", and "Favorite Channels" — but only the first two options work, the last one is "empty".

wmccain,
When you go into the screen that allows you to set the channels you receive, the Favorites List is now controlled in that same screen by using the Thumbs Up button in the same manner as you use the Check Mark to indicate you receive the channel. For example, park the "cursor" in front of FX, hit the Thumbs Up button, now FX is listed as one of your favorites. (I think it mentions that on the right hand side of the screen).

Indeed, it is explained in the on-screen instructions, but I just wasn't looking there. (Instead, I went all through the "menu tree" looking for a "Favorites" item somewhere else, and I even dug the original user manual out of my attic in a (vain) attempt to get some guidance there (the manual showed the "old way", of course).
Upon further investigation, I confirmed that my standalone Series2 TiVo, running 7.3.1, also has the new "one combined list" scheme, but I had just never noticed the change (since, as I mentioned, I don't use Favorite Channels anyway, the only reason that I noticed the change in 6.3 is because it was posted in "Release Notes" that the Favorites list would become empty, and that somehow prompted me to "look for it").

I received the notice that an upgrade was coming soon, but never received it (at least I don't think I did).
How do you know whether the HR10 received the update. Is there anything you need to do to load it. I made the daily call, and still nothing.
Help please.

Vinny,
I hate to do this to you, but if you look at the top of the list where you found this thread, there is a thread "pinned" that talks in great detail about v 6.3. That is a much better place to find info than asking in this thread - it is off topic enough that people that can help may not see your question here, plus it is discussed at length already in there.

wmccain,
I was able to answer your question because I ran into the same thing when one of my Series 2's updated to 6.2! Looked all around the menus trying to find how to set favorites and overlooked the instructions on the screen several times before I saw them. Luckily, I didn't have to make any trips to the attic first! :)

I was able to answer your question because I ran into the same thing when one of my Series 2's updated to 6.2!In addition to the HR10-250 and the standalone Series2 (and a standalone Series1), I also have a Series2 DirecTiVo at the 6.2 software level. I took the Series2 DirecTiVo "out of service" in favor of a new HR20, so I can't presently check it for this same new feature. But I am sure, as you say so, that it has that feature, and I just didn't notice it (because, as I said, I never use Favorites anyway).

No Problem, I will check there.
