I have standard cable with a Series 2 Tivo. This afternoon, I'm getting D* and I'd like the move my Tivo from the main TV to a secondary TV. The main TV will get the HR20.

Will the installers know how to connect the Tivo to my secondary (non-HD,) TV? I'm getting a standard receiver for all the TVs except our Sammie HD.

Will all of the wonderful features of Tivo be available on all 255 D* channels?Or will the Tivo become a hard-drive VCR, requiring manual programming?

I know these are hopelessly newby questions ... is there a comprehensive FAQ anywhere?

You can make it work, but for NO difference in cost you can get a DirecTV DVR for the other room, and not have to pay Tivo every month to keep the Series 2 going.

To make the Tivo work, you will have to use an IR blaster from the Tivo to control the DirecTV receiver, and keep your Tivo account active. Beyond that, I can't help as I don't have a stand alone tivo. Check www.tivocommunity.com for further information.

Unfortunately, we only got the Tivo last Feb., and we took the $100 rebate. If I stop paying them $12.95 a month, it'll cost me. I do wish I'd ordered the non-HD pvr for the basement TV, though.

I've used a pair of Series 2 stand alone Tivo's for 2 years with standard D* recievers with few problems.

You will need to run guided setup on the Tivo to have it fetch the new guide data, but I have found the guide data to be accurate.

Depending on conditions, you want to be careful setting up the I/R blaster on the reciever so it changes your channels with reliability. Nothing is worse than starting to play a recording and watch the channel numbers only display 2 of the three numbers followed by a blank screen.

If you have a dual tuner S2, you will only be able to use one tuner.
