Isn't Survivor broadcast in HD? We have it set to record from the HD local channel, but it doesn't say HD anywhere in the info like other shows do.

Nope, it's not in HD. Don't waste the space recording it on the HD channel. Record it on the SD one.

Actually, the picture quality from my OTA HD CBS station looks a bit better than the SD sat feed, so I always record it HD.

Weird... I thought it was. Guess I'm thinking of another show. I'll send an email to the wife so she can set it to record off the other local channel when she gets home.

Not in HD but sure wish it was! As the cameras get cheaper and lighter I supsect it will though. It would look spectacular since they are always at beautiful beach areas.

The OTA picture on CBS is great (at least mine is) and can be stretched (one of the few SD shows) and it still looks pretty darn good.

I always go for the OTA version.

A SD show on a HD channel ALWAYS looks about 2-3 times better than that on the SD channel only...imho...

I had heard they were 'experimenting' with HD cameras....

I have no desire to see all of those bug bites in HD. Keep it in SD.....please.

I don't know anything about HD cameras, but I would think that since HD Discovery can take the cameras scuba diving into underwater caves that CBS could set a few up on the beach for one of their flagship shows.

i volunteer the cameras they use on that pitiful excuse for programming CSI: Miami for Survivor.

I record it in HD as well, since the SD signal looks better up-graded a bit. Colors are nicer. It's still in 4:3 though. I assume they'll switch eventually. If FOX can do their "reality" shows in HD, I don't see why CBS and NBC can't.

What wrong with CSI: Miami? After all, David Caruso graduated top of his class from the William Shatner School of Over Acting. There aren't too many actors with credentials like that!

My wife got me addicited to CSI and I never understood why she didn't want to watch CSI: Miami. She always said she didn't like David Caruso or the acting on the show. I never knew what she was talking about (since we don't watch it) untill they did the crossover with CSY:NY. I couldn't stand him and his "matter of fact" talking.

Honestly, I think David Caruso is one of the worst actors on TV. He has that Billy Bad Ass attitude and if he were to do that in the real world, some thug would knock the crap out of his frail, little body!

David Caruso is one weird dude. Have you ever noticed how he can't stand directly in front of someone without facing to their left? Plus he's always doing the hunchback thing. His demeanor is easily the strangest I've seen on tv. For some bizarre reason, I like him and William Shatner though.:o

As far as Survivor not being filmed in HD? I read somewhere that they didn't do it because the cameras were too bulky or some such nonsense. Why is it that the cameramen on Cops can hop fences and get in foot chases with their HD cameras but CBS can't film slow, laid back beach scenes with theirs?

I agree... it does look better in SD when recorded off the HD channel. We'll keep recording it that way.

Seemed to be in SD last Saturday night as I was flipping through the channels. As for the cameras being too bulky, I don't think that's much of an issue any more. They could use $6k DVCProHD camera from Panasonic that only weighs 5.5lbs. Besides, if Jeopardy, Wheel and that nanny show can be in HD, I can't imagine why Survivor couldn't. BTW, the gear they already use to film Survivor shouldn't be any heavier or bulkier than HD gear would be, just more $$$$

I don't think COPS is filmed in HD...supposedly it's just upconverted to 16:9 720p. It doesn't look quite as sharp as "real" HD content, but it does still look better than non-upconverted SD/4:3 programming.

I could have sworn that it was in SD when I flipped past 88 last Saturday night.
