Further to my earlier post, here's what I got from my retailer today. I think it speaks for itself:

Dear Valued Customers:

The HR20s did not ship today and the distributors are speechless -- saying only that DIRECTV apparently used their inventories to accomodate big box chainstores as part of their pattern to eliminate small businesses in favor of large corporations -- a pattern that sadly is reflected across the current American economic landscape.

We are therefore implementing FULL REFUNDS which should appear in your accounts within 24 hrs .

We believe that what really happened is that because we were at $297.99 while DIRECTV's own website (and BestBuy) was at $399 for this receiver that we were punished for preventing them from GOUGING consumers. Now they've lowered their price to match ours and eliminated our allotment.

We DID however pressure DIRECTV, who has hoarded thousands of these units for themselves, to accomodate you quickly. All you need to do is the following:

Call 1-800-DIRECTV and ask for an "account retention specialist." They are always on duty and they will be able to get you an HR20 immediately and provide especially to you that don't already have them a FREE AT9 dish plus a free professional install -- in most cases within 24 hrs. The price for the HR20 will be the same or less than we charged and in some cases FREE for what they call "preferred customers":

<Link to some other forum removed>

We hope many of you can use this information to your advantage and savings as a mitigating factor for the delay.

Again, we sincerely apologize for this unforseen situation and regret any inconvenience.

<sigh>

Sounds like someone else will be losing their DirecTV seller privs. :)

By the way, ValueElectronics still says next shipment week of 10/9. If you contact Robert I'm sure he can give you a better estimate.

Was this Beach Audio.

I think BestBuy is putting the squeeze on small retailers and as a result the consume will have to pay more.

More like slander....

Clearly, you don't want to do business with an outfit that would communicate a message like this....very unprofessional.
