View Full Version : not sure where else to ask this....
i am a D* sub, but i also sub to basic analog cable. my cable company is offering a local sporting even via PPV that the sat companies don't have access to and i want to order it. they insist i have to upgrade to digital and rent a STB and pay all these installation and hook up fees just to watch this one game. i really don't want to do all of this just for one game. my friend who has the same cable company (and has digital cable) said i am more than welcome to watch it at his house and just leave him cash for the PPV. however, I need to stay at my house to watch the dog (can't take the dog with me).... is it possible to bring his digital stb to my house and hook it up to my cable (same cable company) and watch the ppv at my house? i realize this is not "technically" something that should be done... but its not like i'm trying to piggy back on his account 24/7, i just want a single ppv event that they will be getting paid for.
what do you guys think?

Not being certain who the cable co is or what the feed is to your house leaves this open to TRY it. It sould be technically possible so long ithe stb is not predicated or coded to the telephone number if it requires a phone line hook up. If so, Try it with some cheap PPV first with out the phone line hook and let the BOX store the info for future down load. . NOt being a lawyer nor do I play one, my gut feeling is that you are not stealing any thing so whats the harm. I think the Accounts is in the Cable Card of the stb.

thanks... i just wanted to get some opinions on whether or not it was technically possible or not. the only other things that i might add is that i have a "filter" of sorts installed on my drop by the cable company that blocks out channels above 13 (since i only pay like $12 /mo for basic analog service)... would that change the possibility of this working?
btw.. i'm on time warner cable.

btw.. i'm on time warner cable. If you have any analog channels blocked it is likely that block will also affect digital channels.

this was exactly what happened. it loaded the guide data and such, but none of the channels worked. took it to someone else's home that has digital cable and viola. ppv worked. thanks guys.
