Single Mode question

I have a 622 hooked up to one tv and the unit is in single mode. When I record an HD show, it is set up to record on tuner 2.

My dumb question is since it is recording on (2) will it record in SD or HD?

In single mode, both tuners can record either SD or HD. Tuner 2 is usually the default first tuner to take a recording.

All three tuners (the 2 SAT & 1 OTA) do HD. Anything recorded HD stays HD on the DVR -- it's recorded unaltered as it is downlinked or received from the source.

In Single Mode all content (live or recorded) is viewable in full HD with various aspect format options selectable via the “*” button on the remote.

In Dual Mode, TV2 (SD) can view that same HD content (down-converted to SD) with two aspect format options - Letterbox (without image side truncation) or Normal (image zoomed to mostly fill your 4:3 aspect SD display.)
