Thank you in advance for any help you give me. I have tried explain my trouble on the phone but very hard to explain without a picture. What I am wanting to do is get the very best hook up I can for my system. I have every type of cable made I think. The main trouble I am having is getting my DVD HD Recorder to find a signal from the VIP622 Receiver. There is also an older Dish Receiver in the home hooked up on it's own cable system if that might be a factor. I made drawing of the inputs and outputs hopefully someone can tell me how best connect them. http://www.geneband.net/hookup/system3.jpg

Double check. It appears you have NO inputs for HD signal on DVD recorder. Perhaps it is a HD DVD player with an SD DVD recorder.

I looked up the spec of the recorder and it is an SD recorder/player. Nowhere does it mention recording or playing HD. So you can hook it up to the ViP622 using the S-Video and the right/left audio which appears to be your best option as far as I can see. You should get the same signal as is on the HDMI or TV1 or the component outputs. I believe all outputs are active simultaneously if I remember correctly.

I want thank you all for helping me with this. I am to stage of losing hair. Yes I understand I can't record or play in HD with DVR. All I am tryingto do is use my DVDwriter to record off the VIP622. I have tried every way I know. I even read the manual on page 107. Hooking it up with tv2 output 72 ohm I get a picture and sound on the by pass but when tun on the dvr it just snow. I am trying each thing you all say. Thanks again.

I have Panasonic DVD recorder and use it to record SD (HD is down rez to 480 p in my case) on DVD. With my unit in Dual mode I come out of the video to video input (EXT 1) & L/R audio out into L/R audio inputs. Then you can record the 4X# out of the TV 2 side of the VIP 622. It is no longer letterboxed for the 16X9 shows. This bugs me and I email E* about it and was told that, that is the way it is setup on TV 2 and nothing can be done about it. There are no plans for us to be able to choose the any other way than this to view TV 2. It works fine for recording this way.
Now since you have a HD ( hard drive will use the term HDD now) I would suggest that you record it to the HDD 1st then transfer it to the DVD. Reason for this are I have used units very much like this and usually it works better that way. The circuits in units like this seem to have a better buffering circuit going into the HDD than direct into DVD. Also you will have chance to do much easier editing of the material. Like not having to find 1st frame of video and timing at the end of the show.

I'm using almost the exact same set up. I have the S-video from my 622 running into my dvd recorder, along with the left and right audio. Then run the outputs from the dvd recorder back up to the TV. Making it as easy as pressing the TV video button to switch between HD viewing and SD recording. I too usually record stuff to the hard drive first and then replay it from there to record on to DVD. I've never had any problems doing it this way and have been quite pleased with the results!

Wow what great butch of people and with such vast knowledge of the subject. Thank each and every one of you. I stayed up most the night and finally have it working. I had to use RC cables from the PIV 622 TV2 output to the DVD Recorder. I updated the drawing. I wish I could cut down on controllers now, but that is another post.

I added wiring to drawing it might be helpful to some one.
