I'm new to this forum but I get a snapping noise while using my new 622 which was installed less than one week ago by DISH installers. It worked perfectly until yesterday. I haven't called tech services yet. Any suggestions? Has any else reported "snapping" noises (every 20-30 seconds)?

Hmmm.. Snapping?? Can't say I have heard that. :welcome_s jwwest. I think more info would be good so we can see if we can reproduce it. Is it any particular channel? TV1? TV2? What is your audio hook up. HD/SD? all those types of info would be useful.

Also.. What do you mean by snapping? Static?

Thanks for the quick response!

The problem was evident in HD and SD and on all channels. I use a direct digital audio feed to my preamp.

I switched out my optical cable and the "snapping" went away. It was a 5 year old cable and I noticed some cracks in the shielding.

If the noise returns I'll be back.

I have had no other issues with my 622.

Thanks.

This sounds like it may be the same thing I experienced on a couple of programs. Specifically the local Wasington DC Redskins HD transponder feed last Sunday.

I desribe it as a audio "click". Happens with about the same frequency as you describe.

It's in the recorded stream, as I can skip back and it's there every time. Audio is routed to my AVR via HDMI.

I also had the same issue, but only on OTA HD channels. Swapped over to my cable HD (same channel and had the same problem.)

So I would assume it was not a hardware or E* issue, but the networks.

I am also getting a snapping noise, much like a an arcing sound, as well as audio studdering. Snapping noise is on TV1 live and recorded, studdering is on on recorded.

Have a new 625 and have the same cracking, snapping issue. Occurs on all channels. Running optical cable from 625 to preamp. Issue goes away when I switch over to analog rca cables.

I did a reboot on the receiver last night and I thought it fixed the issue but the problem returned today.

Hope this gets fixed by Dish soon. This is very annoying.

I get it only on TV2 and it's very sporadic.

I want to dig this thread up because the crackling issue just popped up for me too. I'm running the 625 optical audio to an Onkyo receiver. It's very frustrating and ruins the viewing experience because it's all I notice now.

This was aproblem that I had a few months ago with NBC HD from Salt Lake City. After many phone calls and emails to dish it was found out to be a problem with the NBC station. (per Dish) Their equiptment was reparied/changed out and since the noises have no longer been heard. Have you emailed dishquality@echostar.com ?

I've had the same issue. It mostly occurs on NBC for me (on the 622, not sure if it happens OTA). It usually happens when a show is coming back from commercial. The snap isn't really what gets me, it's that my damn dog starts barking up a storm in reaction to it!

That is my problem exactly, except on the local Fox and NBC (not OTA). My dog, however, will cower in fear and seek shelter under the dining room table. :(
