Dish size/type?????

I just ordered Dish 2 days ago. In talking to the sales rep. I asked him about the type of dish that I needed since I thought I had read somewhere that the larger dish would allow for better reception in inclement weather which we have a lor of here in Maine. He told me that that was not true and would only need that if I was going to be subscribing to international channels. I received my sales confirmation by email and it says I will be getting a Dish 500. What is the truth? Should I be getting this changed before the installation?

You can tell I do not know much on the subject and therefore would appreciate any help.
