Fox News, DirecTV Reach Deal

New York -- Fox News Channel now has a pair of renewal pacts in its pocket.
The cable news leader, which announced a deal with Cablevision Systems Oct. 16, reached an agreement with DirecTV.
“We’re not prepared to talk about the Cablevision deal other than we are happy that it ended happily,” News Corp. chief operating officer Peter Chernin told reporters after the company’s annual meeting here. “We’ve had a good relationship with them for years, and we look forward to continuing that relationship.”
Chernin added that Fox News already renewed with DirecTV and the next deal up is with the National Cable Television Cooperative. However, he would not reveal pricing on any of its deals.
“We’re looking to continue a positive relationship with our partners and maximize the value we think we’ve earned on Fox News with 10 years of great ratings success and tremendous growth,” Chernin said.
Sources familiar with the Cablevision-Fox News deal indicated that the New York-centric cable operator will pay the programmer “north of 75 cents” on average per subscriber, per month. That total would represent a trebling of the 25- to 27-cent license fee Fox News currently receives from distributors.
NCTC senior vice president of programming Frank Hughes said the co-op is “working on an agreement” with Fox News, but he declined to characterize the tenor of those conversations or whether the contract has expired.
The NCTC represents independent cable operators with systems reaching some 14 million subscribers nationwide in programming-contract negotiations.
Was there ever a question about D* reaching a contract with it's owner News Corp.?

I'd pay them to pull it's contract with E if I had a few billion.:D :D
In related news, Time-Warner Cable and HBO have come to terms and Comcast and Vs. have reached agreements.

Just because the programming provider is related to the channel doesn't mean it's a slam dunk. Are the Voom channels on Cablevision? Time Warner just picked up Boomerang on a national basis this past Spring and Cinemax HD is still not available on most TW systems.

Well, I'd for one love to have the $0.075 back that they probably pay to keep CNN since I never watch THAT slanted network!

You think they would give each other a break since they are under the same corporate parent. News Corp own's them, why would they charge a subsidiary more then a competitor?

Geez, Fox News on DTV.....DUH!!!

You won't have to if Charlie thinks they want too much he'll drop them. Then get all of his subscribers to write to them crying so he can save a nickel.Contract time for DISH will be very interesting especially since it won't affect me anymore.:D

I'm actually surprised its not higher. RM could have taken money from the left hand and given it to the right (PNI) while setting a market price for the channel.
Then he sells D* to Liberty who is stuck with the deal.

I hated that when I was with Dish Network... Seemed like that happened ALL THE TIME when I was over there.

I'm I the only one who finds this utterly asinine? Arn't there better things to argue about the preferences of cable news channels?

Thanks, I'm glad someone else feels as I do.
I watch them all, off and on, as well as local news, read the paper, pursue news on-line, and from other sources. To only consider one perspective, regardless of what it is, is rather narrow minded.

Well they could drop CNN and add Sky News that would make me real happy.
Also, I don't think any Cable or Sat operator can afford to drop FNC, due to its popularity.
I watch it every day.
I was actually joking. I prefer FOX, because contrary to what its detractors like to say, FOX is more balanced than the other nets. Certainly more so than CBS, PBS/NPR, and CNN! FOX DOES have a fair number of Liberal commentators, as well as Alan Colmes, Ellen Ratnor, Ellis Hennican, and a few others, who counter-balance anything someone like Sean Hannity or one of the other more Conservative commentators do. Anyone who thinks that Shepard Smith is a Conservative is just not informed!
I DO occasionally watch CNN, especially when a major news event is happening. I like the fact that they don't start repeating their canned shows from 8-11pm ET at 11pm! If I want live news after 11pm, FOX ain't gonna cut it!

So when do those FOX liberal commentators have their shows on? Could you by chance name just one of the fair number of liberal FOX folks??
I'm sorry, I don't like any US news channels. But in my mind CNN does a better job at disguising their liberal views than FOX does it's conservative views.

Maybe you should read my post! Also, there's this guy named "Alan Colmes." I hear he has the second highest rated show on FNC. Or so I've heard. :p Maybe you just don't like Alan?
As to CNN "disguising their Liberal views:" Well, they were known as the "Clinton News Network" for a reason.
News Corp own's them, why would they charge a subsidiary more then a competitor?:confused:News Corp does not "own" DirecTV. DirecTV is a publicly traded company. News Corp owns around 30% of the outstanding shares of DirecTV. Rupert Murdoch is CEO and Chairman of the Board of DirecTV group.
GM holds a little less than 7% of the shares.
According to their SEC filings, Mr. Murdoch personally owns no DirecTV stock.
Then again, if you look at the information surrounding all companies associated with Rupert Murdoch, very little of it seems to add up.
If the Rupert connection was of substantial value, don't you suppose that he could do something about the Fox affiliates that don't seem to be able to reach carriage agreements?

Sorry, I did read your post. Your statement was:
FOX DOES have a fair number of Liberal commentators, as well as Alan Colmes, Ellen Ratnor, Ellis Hennican...
When I read "as well as" I take that to equate to "in addition to" which to me indicated you didn't consider those three in the group of liberal commentators. Had you used a term like "such as ...." I would have understood you to consider those liberal. Sorry for the confusion.

The show is Hannity and Colmes.
And I suppose CNN went 24/7 Monica Lewinsky Scandal because they were in the liberals pockets, right?
I am a liberal..Fox News is slanted right
I am a conservative..CNN is slanted left
aka..they both are full of BS.

Since this one is taking the "southerly route" from its intended topic............
I'm closing the thread.
