Sorry, but just too many posts/threads to read through...in summary, do we expect more boxes to be available soon directly from D*TV? Or are they still on hold pending stability/reliability concerns??? Currently relatively happy with RELIABLE/STABLE/SLOOOOOOW HR-10 in NYC area.
Thanks....

They were never on hold pending stability, they've been on hold for almost three weeks pending availability. D* has so many people still waiting on installs ordered (and canceled repeatedly) from late September and October. Until those are substantially complete and they've built up some inventory, orders will be on hold. Probably another week or two I would guess.
For what it's worth, I've had only minor problems and have been pretty happy with ours. A few glitches here or there but nothing serious. Yet, anyway. :)

Thanks for info, but from what I have heard, the lack of "availability" is due to too many units being returned/replaced to/by D*TV, therefore D*TV put the units on hold to installers (my source is a local premium installer). In any case, what source do you have that states "another week or two"?????
Another part of my question is given the so far inconsistent reliability/stability issues, unless D*TV adds MSG-HD and FSNY-HD regional sports networks in NYC, what else is the benefit of getting an HR-20 NOW unless its shown to be more consistently reliable and stable than my current HR-10??
Anyone????

Word to the wise: don't believe a thing said by an installer or a D* CSR unless you see the proof with your own eyes. There are plenty of us who have had minimal problems. Forums tend to collect the disaffected and unhappy, who come looking for solutions, ideas for help, or just to rant.

No source, just an estimated guess based on reading lots of posts here. When D* put new orders on hold, several people who needed replacements were told "several weeks." Since then, in the last week several people have posted that they have in fact received their refurbs or new units as replacements. That indicates that both new units and refurbs are once again available in at least limited quantities, which is a change from three weeks ago.

Best bet is to goto the D* website or call them to find out. I wouldn't be surprised if one of your local Best Buys or Circuit Citys has them in stock.

The only benefit right now is the HR-20 has YES and SNY in HD now (games only). Since I'm not a big Nets fan I can wait till baseball season befor that becomes an issue. The HR-20 might also have Channels 9, 11, and 13 in HD. Maybe someone in the NYC area with the HR-20 can confirm this.
No HD versions of 9, 11 or 13 yet. As for the Nets, believe it or not, DirecTV has been blacking out the Nets HD games in the NYC metro area! I hope that gets straightened out soon.
Back when the first HD RSNs were announced, MSG and FSNY were on the list for October, but so far they are MIA.

Thanks for recent replies...very helpful. Looks like I'll wait a little longer unless I could get Rangers/Knicks in HD now....
