I just recently changed from a comcast 6412 box to the DIsh 622. I am having problems outputing the signal to a whole house distribution system correctly. The way the comcast box worked, I could output normal 1080i out the component and normal 4:3 out the composite. So the house distribution system would see the 16:9 signal in normal aspect ratio (on my regular 4:3 crt tv's) but would miss some of the picture on the left and right sides. I can not seem to achieve this with the 622. I always get a squeezed version out the composite output.

I have toggled the menus in every concievable combination to no avail. Any tips for this?

Thanks,
JAB:confused:

The only way I've found to have the aspect ratio correct on a 16x9 and a 4x3 TV at the same time is to run in Dual Mode. This allows you to set the aspect ratio individually for each output. Otherwise I see the same thing as you. I either have everything normal on my 16x9 and squeezed on my home distribution or normal, with the edges cut off, on my home distribution and stretched on my 16x9.

Hmm...can you watch the same program (like from the DVR) on both at the same time in dual mode? My scenario: Watching NFL from DVR and sending to distribution system so that if someone goes to the kitchen to get a snack, they can still follow the game.

Correct me if I am wrong, but in dual mode it is like two completely different systems.

Thanks,

Yes in dual mode you will be using 2 different tuners, but you simply have to tune TV2 to the same channel as TV1 and you will have what you want and in correct aspect ratio.

So this won't work with programs off the DVR.

It works off the DVR. The 4x3/16x9 selection is output only.

It's been a while since I've been in Dual Mode, but I believe both TV1 and TV2 in dual mode can watch the same DVR event. If no one else can confirm this now I can test it out at home for you.

Yes, you can watch the same DVR program on TV1 and TV2 at the same time. If you want them synchronized, though, it might be a little tricky. ;)

I just checked this using the "twin view" on my Sony HDTV. I have TV1 output via HDMI & TV2 via composite to the "video 1" input. You would have to start the program from the DVR with both remotes at the same time. I had one remote in each hand & was able to start the playback on both outputs at the same time.

That is what I was afraid of. We typically watch EVERYTHING off the DVR to skip the commercials. Syncing TV1 and TV2 will not work in this situation. Oh well I guess I'll get used to tall skinny people on the kitchen tv, or better yet use this as an excuse to buy a couple more 16:9 displays!

I'm not sure this would be a problem -- I have a 16x9 in the main room and an older 4x3 tv in the kitchen. I just start both off of the DVR and have had no real problems playing catch-up if I'm moving between rooms. I use dual mode so that TV1 is set as the living room system and TV2 as the kitchen -- I have TV2 set as the default tuner for recording, but that doesn't make a difference one way or another.

Just had a thought...

Would it be possible to set the remote addresses to the same and have one remote control both TV1 and TV2???

Whatta ya think?
