New to DVR and HD.......If there is this much trouble with this unit why can't I use HD receiver with seperate TiVo receiver? Please help

The Stand Alone TiVo receivers, that can accept a video signal from an external source... are Standard Definition only, there is no HD versions.

So yes, you could... but you would lose the HD aspects of the equation.

I just checked Tivo site and they have a hd box.......any recomendations?

Their Series 3 box is cable/OTA compatible only. The HR10-250 is D* compatible, but not MPEG4 compatible.

So if you want a D* HD-DVR then you're looking at the HR20 unless you find a HR10 from a separate source.
