View Full Version : OK...It's Time to Ask Earl
I've been a good boy, I haven't whined or complained. I've tried to help others. I've answered a ton of questions (some of them even correctly).
It's time for me to spend some of my "political capital"!
Is there any chance we will have OTA by Thanksgiving, or should I just stop thinking about it?
(be gentle);)

No, Earl never said it would be on 12/01/2006
I rarely give a specific date.
-) The official DirecTV statement is Late 2006
-) The CSR information has pretty much been consistantly December 1st
-) From what I know... OTA is still being tested, but is literraly a "toggle" switch away from being turned on.
As for it being enabled by Thanksgiving.... I would not count on it...
I don't think they would make that significant of a change to the system, with a 4 day weekend following.

:scratchin Which will happen first: the software update to make the H20 interactive or the software update to activate the OTA for the HR20?

Probably a lot more than you can/will say! :-)

Thankyou Earl, my anticipatory anxiety has been eliminated and I'll crawl back under my rock (for now).:D
It sounds like our best case scenario then would be seeing a staggered rollout early to midweek, next week, 11/27 to 11/29. Why would they start the rollout on Friday 12/1? I think we've seen posts reporting CSR reports, that some may see it before the 1st because they want to start it rolling.
I'll bet on Monday, 11/27/06 it'll be released for the West Coast, with a slower rollout than we saw for 0xef over the rest of the week.
Maybe they'll call it 0xota.;)

Where's the toggle, I'll flip the switch. I'll start guessing and you tell me when I right:
1) go to menu, type 54321, then back, then dash three times
2) go to Now Playing, hit blue button, then hit INFO until your thumb goes numb.
3) Stand up, turn around three times while scratching your head and rubbing your tummy, then sit down and press the "Enable OTA" button on the remote.
Am I anywhere near close?

Earl, as usual your ambiguous statement baffles me just a little bit.
I'm pretty sure there will be no update this week because of the long weekend, but maybe if they release it tonight or tomorrow night there's enough time to see if it rolls out ok. However, I'll put my money down on OTA activation in 8 days.

I looked all over my friend's HR20 and I can't find a toggle switch anywhere! Guess he needs to get a new machine!:D
