found one at circuit city, installer is to come out tomorrow to install the new dish. a)Can I install the receiver and activate it before he comes?
b)Will the receiver receive software upgrades from the standard dish?

Figured I would get the most up to date software, then re-boot ..re format or just beat the machine before I get all my programming entered.

Thanks!
Tim

By standard dish, you mean 3LNB, yes. Be sure to connect to sat in terminal 1 at least. If you're successful in activation, the receiver will update fairly quickly, usually right after getting guide info. Check your signal strength on old dish and compare them to the new dish after installer puts up new dish. Good luck.

If you are going to be getting your locals in HD via this H20, you will need for them to install the new 5LNB dish and you will not be able to set this up as the installer has to use special meter to get exact pinpoint for the satellites that are set up for carrying the local stations in HD. That is unless you plan on using an
outside antenna for your OTA stations....

I installed my own AT9 without a "special meter". Several other people here have done the same thing. I'm getting great signal strength on all sats.

So did I, but I'm gonna be OTA for a while (small market) so I can't tell how well the 99 and 103 sats are aligned right now. May have to fight those alignments later.

Why do I waste my time with D*?
masteck came out to install the 5lnb and he was literally afraid to get on the roof..
after 5 minutes, he said "I can not get it to work as the line of sight is not good"...
He has to have a supervisor come out, and they will call me to schedule an appointment....another day out of work for me

WTF send a rookie out to install the most complicated dish?

Today had installer out to setup new HR20. After setup he tried to go back to install local antenna, but cannot because on screen the Antenna option is greyed out.
Anyone know how I can get back into the system and reset it so I can eventually get OTA locals?

Bogus dude. That's why some, including myself and glennb, do it ourselves.

That's in the initial setup which you can access in the setup menu, but it won't do you any good until OTA is turned on.

Thanks...I did go to the inital etup but cannot access the antenna setup because it is now greyed-out. The manual says to go the Local Area Network to put in my zip code? I have not used the unit yet, at all. Should I just reset everything?
