HEY!!!!:hurah:

I thought that was pretty much a given anyway. Obviously, this makes it official.

yeah, this is a good thing.

A better thing would be them launching the new national HD sat's NOW!!

DIRECTV has had anemic national HD instead doing their offerings of local HD broadcasts in more markets.

why couldnt they have instead also launched maybe 5-10 more nationals at same time? and done 1-2 less markets?

Well, I checked the Guide on the HR10 and while there's any entry for 8PM EST on Thurs. the 23rd, it says "Title Not Available". C'mon D*, what about the people going out of town who want to set this to record before they leave? I see NHL games listed by title, why not the Chiefs-Broncos?

IIRC... The spaceway sats they are using to provide the locals, are not CONUS sats. Hence why they are focusing more on the items that are spotbeamable... vs repeating the channel in each spot beam.

I wish it where that simple that they could use "fling" the new SATs up there... however... from everything I have learned over the years.... there is so much stinking red tape, procedures, launch windows, testing, ect.... it just isn't that easy to launch them now...

As I am sure DirecTV would if they could, launch them right now.

Yeah - I know D* would put them up if they could. Big ad in the Denver Post today from Dish claiming to have more HD channels than everyone else (They will probably milk this ad till the sats go up).

I saw that Fox locally here in Dever is carrying the Bronco game but it is not listed as HD (though they broadcast in HD) I wonder if they will carry it? I wonder if D* will black out the HD NFL broadcast here because of it??

fair enough on the logic.

However, the sad fact is that if you live in NY or LA, you don't have much new HD programming. Hell TNT HD is 90% fake HD. with movies stretched to fake it.

Universal HD has been a real dog. showing lame old failed universal tv shows like century city or mr sterling. only recently are they showing some better movies like back to the future.

espn 2 as a national hd network for Directv? makes very little sense, they could have Starz HD or Cinemax HD in their place. at least these networks offer compelling content.

It's just frustrating that they don't have someone in the Directv programming dept who gets it.

It should be in HD on your local affiliate... as it "should" be the exact same feed as the NFL Network.... as that is the arrangement they have in place for the ESPN games (With local affiliates).

I haven't yet seen a year where it was blacked out from the "cable" broadcast, when it was simulcasted on the local affiliate.

I'm posting it on our local forums to see if anyone knows officially. I'm becoming a real snob now that I got my 60" SXRD - as I have to spend thanksgiving over at friends homes this year and instead of looking forward to all the good company food and drink - I am already missing seeing the games on a large screen in HD. Sigh - I am corrupted.

I disagree with this. ESPN2 HD has carried a lot college football games in HD this past season. A lot of those were on while another HD game was on ESPN-HD. I'm sure that this will be the case a lot during the college basketball season. As a huge college sports fan, especially basketball, I very much appreciate ESPN2-HD. ESPN HD and ESPN2 HD are the two national HD channels I watch the most. Much more so than TNT-HD, HBO-HD, or Showtime HD.

Isn't Monday night football on ESPN2 also?

FOX 4 in Kansas City claims that they will carry the game in HD, so the Denver local probably will as well.

That sound you hear coming from the east is Chiefs fans scrambling to put up antennas.

May the best team lose, and otherwise have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Probably none... given that 95 is the standing special events HD channel.

LOL! I was thinking the same thing, but they aren't also broadcasting 4 or 6 more games in HD at the same time like on Sunday, so I'm sure it's not an issue.

And it is certain it's on 95, right? I'd read other channels tossed around in earlier threads on this topic, but hadn't checked them lately.

95 is the special events HD channel... and this is being treated as such.

It is going to be an MPEG-2 broadcast, on the special events channel.

Has anyone noticed this. On my HR 20 when I skip in 12 hour periods (using the green button) to get to the guide on Thursday night at the time of the game I typically land in the middle of the game listed there as clear as day on the guide. But then when I back up to see when the game begins I finally get to a point where it says something to the effect that nothing is scheduled and then the game disappears on the guide. I've checked this out a couple of times and even had my daughter check it out just to make sure I wasn't losing it. So, I'm confident that the game will be shown on 95 in HD, but what the heck is up with this guide???

On my HR10-250 guide, it shows up on 95 just fine, and shows that it will be in HD.

So just for clarification, as I dont' have a crapload of time working 6 14 hour days to keep up with you techies...

The NFL Network on channel 212 will show the games played there on channel 95? Or is / will 212 be in HD!? Sorry all!

If it holds as last Thursday did (and no one knows that other than DTV) 212 will be the SD feed and 95 will be the HD feed.

Okay, the hometown Bengal's are on Thurs. this week. It's also being carried on the local NBC.

Since it's HD on 95, will it be HD on NBC? Are they getting the exact same feed? Or will it not be on 95 in Cincy since it's on NBC?

I'm trying to figure out how to set up the recording of the game and quite a few shows on Thurs night across my HR20 and R10.

Usually yes... The local affiliates that carry the cable broadcasts, pickup both the SD and HD feeds.

The only one that can tell you for certain, is your local affiliate.

You may also end up with one or the other....maybe both being blacked out. Be prepared.

The only way I see that happening... is if the Stadium doesn't sell out.

You're referring to both being blacked out, right? I know my NFLST coverage for the Cardinals is blacked out when it's being carried locally. NFL Network could be blacked out if the local NBC station is carrying it.

2 points....
1. For the Turkey Day night game the game was on 95 in HD and local Fox31 in HD ( probably SD as well)
2 Collinsworth was pretty good, but Gumbel was horrid.... a monotone blathering, reminded me of the teacher in Charlie Brown over the load speaker. :)

I watched the K.C./Denver game on Channel 95 the othere night and was quite impressed with the resolution quality of the broadcast after they got their audio and video synced...Very clear and vivid.:)

I think NFLST rules are different, then the re-broadcasts of the Cable channel on non-pay TV.

As earlier this year, the Monday Night football games (ESPN), where not blacked out when they where rebroadcasted on the local ABC

(As a side note, it caused a problem at the Buffalo Wild Wings I was at, about 1/3 or the TV's where on the ABC version, and 1/3 where on the ESPN, causing about a 3 second delay between them... very weird)

And I will be there, but I just want to set it up and come in late, but I will make sure to check at 8 pm.

Thanks

It won't be blacked out. The local Fox station here carried the Broncos game on Thanksgiving in both HD and SD, and both ch 95 HD and 212 SD were still available.

That could be a very good thing or something the NFL cops at DTV haven't noticed. I hope everything is fine but with DTV I'd never bet on it.

I think it's just a good thing, the same thing happened here with Monday Night Football, a local channel carried it for OTA people, but ESPN and ESPN HD weren't blacked out. Also, I have a friend with cable and he didn't have blackouts on any channels either.

I just checked the listings on the DTV website, the local Baltimore feed is on ABC. Is that odd that the Cinci local is NBC? I guess for these games the local deals with the teams have precedent. I don't care if it's on ABC or ch 95, long as the "better team" Bengals show their true stripes and lose... : )

Since they are non-network (Fox, CBS, MBC, ESPN) TV games I think the local broadcasts of the NFL Network feed is probably more like the pre-season games and are carried on whatever station negotiated broadcasting rights with the teams. I know both the Cowboys and Texans pre-season games are carried on stations that don't normally have the games during the season.
