I saw this a few times recently. Notably on Law and Order recorded off Dish's WNBC-DT broadcast.
With Closed Captioning on the playback stops and the system locks up until rebooted. After reboot will freeze at the same spot if CC is on. You can ff past the spot and continue. May happen multiple times in the show. Problem does not occur if CC is disabled when playing the same recording.
