Just a quick note of thanks to everyone that has posted advice and lessons learned with the installation process of the HR20. I found this site only after the technician had been trying to setup the OTA on the HR20 for 90 minutes and had been passed to at least three different supervisors on the phone.
I put myself on the HR20 waiting list through the D * website in late October and received a call that it would be installed, if I wanted it, on 11/22. I asked about OTA functionality and the CSR stated that if it wasn't already active, it would be by the end of November. Sounded good, so I accepted the 11/22 install. When the installer showed up, he told me that I must have won the lottery to get this device.
I went from my existing HD receiver to the HR20 and all the cables were ready to go. Both satellite RG-6's were working fine with my dish and the installer kept trying to get the OTA to work (it was working with my old HD receiver, so he ruled out a faulty wiring job). He was on the phone with several technicians and three different supervisors. He must have reset the HR20 three dozen times. During this mess, I googled the HR20 and found this forum. Only after hearing one of the supervisors yell through the phone at my installer that he obviously messed something up in the install did I show him all the postings about OTA not yet being available.
Once beyond that uncomfortable situation, the Tips and Tricks I had printed out from this forum provided an easy way for me to demonstrate the capabilities of the device to the technician. Granted, I'm glad to have the HR20 because of the potential advantages, yet local OTA HD is missing from what I had in the past. The installer simply wasn't up to speed on the issues with the unit, but worse - his supervisors and tech support over the phone were leading him in the wrong direction thinking that OTA was working. The fine print on their website states the OTA service will be available later this year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but looking for plan B.
Again - thanks so much for providing accurate and updated information on the HR20. Both I and my D * technician thank you.
