somewhat of a newbie here, wondering which setting i should choose and when 480i,480p, 720i,720p,1080i? i have a 1080 capable panasonic plasma, so does that mean i should leave the hr-20's format on 1080i and then change my aspect ratio on my TV as needed? or are there times when it is best to change to the other settings? thanks!

Need to know what model Panny you have.
As even though it may accept a 1080i signal, it may only be displaying at 720p.

The choice is actually up to you depending on whether the HR-20 or your TV does a better job of upscaling. The advantage of having the HR-20 do it for you (aka "Native Off") is that channel changing is faster with fewer hang ups in switching the scaling. It depends on your TV though as to which is better. I run mine with Native Off at 720p which I'm happy with (my TV is 1080p).

The TH series plasmas run at 768 if they downscale 1080. Essentially you get 48 more lines than 720p. I think it makes a difference on mine even though it's slight.
