I would def. recommend the "compression" style tool over any kind of crimper.
Home Depot sales compression F connector tools, and even have kits you can buy- (where the phone/ethernet, wall plates and all those goodies are located.)
Every Professional installer I know and have seen, use the compression connection tools.
I have the Data Shark kit from Home Depot, and a Monster Cable compression tool from when I was doing some installs.
Compression all the way... IMO.

I purchased the Ideal Model 30-633(for RG6) at Lowe's for $18. Perfect for at home use. They also sell the proper connectors for the tool.

I have the first one, and it works just fine for me. I'm not a professional, just a user.

I got the second style off eBay for $51.50 ($44 plus $7.50 s/h). Ths tool works great for me, and I am a novice at best. Haven't checked prices lately, but chances are you may be able to find one cheaper.
