My son-in-law and daughter just moved and upgraded their equipment. Their receivers are newer models than mine, and I was wondering what is involved in swapping out my older receivers for thier newer ones, which they no longer need. Is it as simple as moving my access cards to the newer units and connecting everything up, or will I need to contact D*? If I need to contact them, will they have a problem with doing this?

Thanks, Puz

Thanks, PuzYou will have to call D* if your lucky they will marry your old cards to the "new" receivers. If you aren't lucky they will charge you $20 per access card for new cards.:)

There is usually no problem swapping cards between receivers on the same account. You would only have a problem swapping a card that was previously active on an account other than yours, such as when purchasing a used receiver on ebay that comes with a used access card. Even then, DTV has been known to activate used cards. It all depends on who you get on the other end of the line when you call DTV. If the CSR says he or she can't swap the card, hang up and call back. You'll eventually get someone that will do the swap for you.
