For those of you who aren't familiar with Survivor, and how we tie our contests into it, DBSTalk.com presents The Survivor Primer.
Survivor is a game where 16 contestants are stranded in a deserted location (an island this time around for the 3rd time) for 39 days. Every 3 days, one contestant is voted out of the tribe and sent packing. There are 4 contestants left during the final 3 days, with the 4th place finisher voted out on the 3rd to last day, the third place finisher voted out the 2nd to last day, and the winner chosen on the last day.
The 16 contestants are initially divided up into 2 tribes of 8 members each. For the first 18 days (6 weeks of the show airing) the tribes compete against each other in reward challenges and immunity challenges. The winning tribe in the reward challenges usually get some kind of comfort prize - food, blankets, soap, cooking supplies, fishing supplies, etc. The losing tribe in the immunity challenges has to go to tribal council and vote one of their members out of the tribe.
After day 18. there are 10 contestants left, and the tribes merge together to form one new tribe. At that point, reward challenges and immunity challenges become individual - meaning that the contestant that wins the reward challenge gets the reward, and the contestant that wins the immunity challenge cannot be voted out at the next tribal council. The new merged tribe goes to tribal council every three days and votes a member out until the end. This takes place from week 7 to week 12 of the show.
The final week of the show (week 13), there are 4 contestants left. On day 37, there will be a reward challenge and an immunity challenge. On day 38, there will be just an immunity challenge. And on day 39, the winner is chosen.
The winner is chosen by the votes of a jury, made up of the final 7 people to be voted out. They vote on day 39, chosing the winner.
That's how the show has worked in the past.
We tie the contest into the show like this: In weeks 1-6, there will be a poll that you will vote in picking which tribe will win the reward challenge. There will be a poll that will vote in picking which tribe wins immunity, and there will be a poll that you will vote in picking which contestant is voted out.
In weeks 7-12, you will still vote in the three polls, but now you are voting for which individual wins the reward, and which one wins immunity.
In week 13, you will be voting in a total of 6 polls instead of 3 - 1 reward challenge, 2 immunity challenges, 4th place, 3rd place and the winner.
This format is of course subject to change, if the format of the show changes. If you have any questions, post them in this thread.
