I have an HR20, and I have a WiFi hub about 40 feet away. While I could drill a hole in the floor and run some ethernet cable through the crawlspace, is there a wireless way to connect to the ethernet port on the HR20 reliably, using my current WiFi setup?

I don't know if/when they plan to allow a USB Wireless adapter.
But until they do, you would need to use this type of device:

what functions would be enabled to want to connect the HR20 to the home network?

Right now, none.
But there are several "announced" features.
-) ViiV PC connectivity
-) VOD via BroadBand
-) Online Scheduling
-) Some of the DirecTV2Go features
I wouldn't drill the hole in the floor just yet.
You may be living in a differnt house by the time DIRECTV get the Ethernet port on the HR20 running. :)

Not unless the housing market picks up really soon.

My house is wireless but I've had great luck with the netgear wall network adapters where I couldn't get wireless reception

This word should be removed from Earl's vocabulary.
WHEN EARL WHEN??????
I had thought the days of checking the forum every 15 minutes looking for hints on the OTA release were over.
Glad to be back, though.

"Soon" is such a powerfull word.
I could use: "Right around the corner".
Before the "full moon" (just not state which one)
Before the next time I "get some".... (and remember I am married)

I'm discouraged to see that D*'s release schedule is tied to Earl's wife's alcohol intake. Very distressed.
I've got to run out now and buy my ViiV computer and my Linksys WET54G. Be back on the board in 15 minutes or so.
Actually, I have a wireless ethernet bridge connecting my HR20 to my network. Linksys makes a couple of good 'uns. I already had the bridge there for other reasons 'ahem. My router sees the HR20 just fine and assigns it an IP address.

Although your router assigns an IP address to your HR20. There is not currently any advantage to connecting your HR20 to your home network yet, right?

What do you mean? I send high def programs to my computer and process them onto HD-DVDs and sell in the Chinese market. I've made gabillions.
Actually, you are correct.

There's no reason not to though, right? I mean, I am the kind of person who likes to have things set up so that when the feature comes online I don't have to do anything but enjoy it. That's why I got the HR20 before the Reno HD stations came online. I just wanted everything running so that when the switch was thrown, I would just get the content.

I got a set of these (http://www.airlink101.com/products/apl8511_22.html) at Fry's and they work great on my network.

Perhaps if we all chipped in for some plasic surgery for Earl so that she would find him more attractive.
We can at least come up with a paper bag for his head?
I have an AirPort Express that serves triple duty. First, it connects to and extends my wireless network. Second, it provides an ethernet port. Previously my PS2 used it - then I got a Wii with its own wireless connection. "Soon" my HR20 will use it. Third, I can send output from iTunes through it and play it through my A/V receiver.

Tyrod, be quiet, you are going to get us busted. :bonk1: By the way, did you get the last batch shipped??
