Maybe a stupid question, but for the life of me I can't seem to figure out what the two buttons in the middle of the Dish UHF remote actually do.  One is marked "Dish" and lights up for a while when you push it.  The other is marked with a sort of beam icon.

The Dish button that lights up is the Dish Home button that takes you to channel 101, Dish Home/OpenTV portal. I'm not quite sure what you mean by a beam icon. Is it the the button above the FWD button? If it is, that the 30 second skip button.

Hmm. The Dish button doesn't seem to do anything on a 721. The "beam" button I'm asking about is the red buggon symmetrically to the right of the "Dish" button.

Oh, I didnt realize you were talking about the 721. I don't know about the beam button then, but the721 does not yet have OpenTV, but you should get it in a future s/w update which will enable that button to be used.

OK, I think I figured it out. The 721 comes with the "Platinum Plus" remote which differs from the normal Platinum UHF remote in that it includes the three PIP buttons and has both a "DISH" button and what's called an "I" button (what looks like a little beam icon). The DISH and I buttons don't appear to have any function. Indeed, upon further investigation, these buttons are "reserved for future interactive applicaiton use".
I guess I'll sit tight and see what happens in the future...

I think the "I" button is for future internet access (WEB HOME).

So I suppose if the 508 remote gets this i button then it will have internet access as well.

I doubt if the 50x will ever have internet capabilities.
