I know someone who may be interested in becoming an installer. Could someone answer a few questions about what is required?

1. Is it best to apply with the local company?
2. What's a decent rate of pay for an installer?
3. What experience is required?
4. What sort of training or orientation should be provided by the company?
5. Is it possible to self-contract as a DTV installer or are the areas protected and all installs must go through the local company? Do the local companies sometimes sub-contract independents?

Any input is appreciated!

I worked for a local DTV office about 3 yrs ago so not sure how things work now but back then....

1. Just apply at a local office
2. You get a percentage per install, dont work one day you dont get paid, more installs more money.
3. No experience its not hard at all.
4. Orientation? HAHA, you go with an installer for a day but thats it. Although when Dishnet was out you got a few days of training and certification.
5. At the office I was at all the installers were contracters, they worked for themselfs.
