Did you confirm with D* that it was ordered? I ordered mine on 12/15 from channel 215 and when I now tune the channel it says "you are authorized for this program" With all the glitches with the HR20 I decided to call D* to see if they had a record of my order - They didn't! :nono2: My advice, double check!

Good advice tjBoyd! I just ordered Hotpass through my NRTC coop (MidWisconsin DBS) who bills me for my D* service. 2 rings on phone and answered and 2 minutes later I was signed up. I only call D* itself if I want to change equip etc. or need tech help and have only done that twice in 7 years. :)

Does anyone know if Hotpass requires the new receivers to use to it's fullest like NFL-ST SuperFan?

FYI, HOT PASS full functionality requires interactive capable receivers

Since you ordered by remote D* will not have a record of it until your HR20 phones home and uploads your order activity to the billing system. You should ask a CSR to send the phone home signal to your HR20 it should display the red record light when calling out.

The FAQs on the DIRECTV website says that all residential customers will get NASCAR Hot Pass FREE for the Daytona 500. The biggest downside that I see is that with "in car cameras" for only 5 drivers per week, a large number of potential fans won't be "in-car" with their favortie driver very many times during the 37 race season. Will folks be willing to pay for the entire season if their favorite driver is only featured with in-car cameras 5-10 times per year? I to will wait for the free preview before I commit.

I ordered this for my wife (she is a bigger fan than I am). I am not too worried about the in-car cameras. She is a big Junior fan. And the odds are he will be one of the five in car camera drivers. :)

I hope your right that Junior will be one of the 5 cars most of the time. With Roush making a deal with E* to sponser their team part time I don't think D* will want any of their cars among the 5! But maybe NASCAR will pick the 5. Just have to wait and see. :) Anyhow I'm all signed up for Hotpass.

Is that all that a subscriber gets is "in-car camera"? I would order it if I could watch the TV feed and hear audio similar to NASCAR Track Pass.

racemanva
12-23-06, 07:49 AM
You do get the national feed(FOX, ESPN) and commo between driver and pit in addition to the in-car camera on up to 5 different D* channels. Have seen various screen shots that D* has provided to the national media to the hype the deal. I think this is a real big deal for D* because they are "Producing" this sports subscription, not just provding the national feeds like MLB and ST, have heard they have hired approximately 75 folks to actually produce this event every week, will have their own announcers, additional cameras in the corners etc., . Also heard it will take 200,000-250,000 subscriptions to break even. Hmmmmmmm. with tv rating way down(34 of the 36 races last year including Homestead that was down 20% from 2005) and attendance hurting(not even half the races are selling out) that may be a stretch to get that many subscribers.

Does this mean you don't lose coverage during commercials? That may make it worth the price. I will definitely try during the Daytona 500.

racemanva

Hmmmmm hadn't heard about how commercial breaks will be handled. If they never break away from the race action, I'll pay double for that kind of package! !

I'd be real interested to have someone post here after the Daytona 500 and let us know what features you gain by having an "interactive recevier" as I have only the DTivos (non-interactive) and the FAQ is somewhat vague in this area.

Per the HotPass FAQ:

What kind of audio features does NASCAR HotPass offer?

Two announcers per channel will describe the action from start to finish. You'll also hear the dialogue between the driver and his team on their internal communications system. You can switch to the live broadcast audio at any time.(Hmmm... I wonder if you need the interactive receiver to switch audio.)

Do I need any special DIRECTV equipment to watch NASCAR HotPass?

No. All DIRECTV receivers allow you to view NASCAR HotPass channels. However, some additional interactive features may be included in the package, which will require an interactive receiver to use those added features. The D10, D11, HR20 models are all interactive at this time.
Also: Isn't the R15 and 'interactive' recevier?

They will, The Daytona 500 will be a free preview.

When INDEMAND had NASCAR INCAR, the 500 and the July PEPSI 400 were free every year.

If it's like the Mix channels, you can access the audio with a TiVo by:

1. Pressing the INFO button.
2. Arrowing down to the ALTERNATE AUDIO icon (speaker).
3. Pressing SELECT.
4. Scrolling to the audio track desired.
5. Pressing SELECT.

I just verified the steps as I wrote them down. Note: I do not have any knowledge as to if this will work with the HotPass channel, I'm just speculating as to how it may work.

I'm looking forward to seeing Martin Truex, Jr. at least once-he's my daughter-in-law's cousin! I wonder how many times Bowyer is going to be featured?

Newshawk, My wife is a big Dale Jr fan and also Truex. He is from my area here in NJ. We actually met him and Dale once when they made an appearance at the old dirt track he raced at. (New Egypt Speedway)

Its her 40th b-day this year and she have never been to a real race. So I am going to try to get her tix's.

Zipbags, I'm originally from NJ... born in Camden and grew up on Long Beach Island. When I moved back, I ended up in Manahawkin, where my son met and fell in love with Truex's cousin. My son and daughter-in-law still live in NJ, along with my parents, my sister and younger brother and other relatives.

I met Martin once, also. I used to work at Adelphia 8 in Toms River and we had him on the Press Box, a sports show we used to do, when Martin was racing modifieds. A member of his crew at the time was a classmate of mine in high school.

Thanks Newshawk. You are confirming (we'll wait and see for sure) my guess that the interactive features simply accessed the various SAPs available. So, for the first race I will at least be able to sample everything albiet a bit more clumsily than a "enhanced recevier" with corresponding DirecTV remote control.

Also, sorry for the off-topic post - I see there is already a posting about HotPass and interactive receviers: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=75241

Its Interactive capability has not yet been activated, and to this point I haven't seen any large number of people clamoring for it. Seems strange that a receiver that has been out so long, still lacks a basic feature.

I really like my H20 and would certainly like to see Interactive work.

I'm thinking the same thing... I don't want to pay for Hotpass and then have to watch the likes of Gordon (either one) or any of the Roush guys! If I could just get it on the days that Tony or Kasey was on for a small fee, that would be perfect.

On the other hand, I am tempted to get in now since I watch all the races, even the dull ones like California and Chicago, and it's something like $20 cheaper if you order before the end of the month.. Oh the decisions!

It's NASCAR, it will be all flash and no substance. No matter how many stats and graphics they come up with, or in-car cameras they install, the racing will still be boring. And, from what I understand, you wont be able to record it.

Save the $80 and use it to go to 4 or 5 races at your nearest local track. The racers there still race for one reason, to win!!!

Modifieds forever, Toyotas, never!

You don't HAVE to watch all the drivers! Each driver will have their own channel assigned for the day, so you just tune to the channel of the driver you want to watch or ignore the HotTicket channels if none of them interest you.

Well, I guess I don't HAVE to watch them, but what if one day it's Jeff Gordon, Robbie Gordon, Kenseth, Kyle Petty, and Kyle Busch? I'm paying for it, so I'll feel like I need to watch it and get my money's worth, but the last thing I want is to have to sit there and listen to Jeffy whine about rough driving or something!!! :(

Watch your postal mailbox for a brochure - it looks like one came in my mail yesterday.

Some more details: A "mix" channel (794) from which you can select one of five driver channels (795-799).

It looks like each driver channel will have 3 video feeds - two "picture-in-picture" boxes on top and the bottom half of the screen will be the out-the-windshield camera. The bottom of this frame has lapcount, speed and RPM.

There is a "Quick Menu" that has LeaderBoard, TeamAudio, Driver Channels, Fox and NASCAR mix as the selections.

A footnote says: "* Mix tuning, Leaderboard, and Quick Menu features require a DIRECTV interactive-enabled Receiver". Before I run out and get an interactive receiver (I have all DTivos right now) I'll wait and see how I do without on for the first race. I'm sure people will post here what the various shortcuts are for those without interactive receivers.

Daytona 500 Hotpass lineup announced.

#8-Dale Earnhardt Jr.; #29-Kevin Harvick; #48-Jimmie Johnson; #20-Tony Stewart; and #55-Michael Waltrip.

Interesting, 4 Chevys and a Toyota. No Dodge, no Ford.

Tony was rarely included in the in-car radio on the web broadcast.
Harvick can be really fun to listen to.

I have HotPass, had to call in to get it, internet order doesn't work, if this is the kind of line up they have everytime or if #8 is in it everytime then I will do my best to get my money back. Personally I'm tired of hearing about "Jr". This first line up is crazy, looks like Chevy had something to do with it. I'm not as concerned with brands as with a good cross section of all the drivers and this first "ain't" it. I am a #9 fan but still want to see other folks get to see their drivers. I hope "D" handles this right. They have one black eye now(HR20) and with as many NASCAR fans there are word will get around fast.

Where I agree with you on "everything Jr" the reality of it is $$$
He is the Number #1 fan favorite. He will "likely' be included every week.
I wonder if D* will censor his team communications. He is very colorful when communicating. Great to listen to if you are ever at a race with a scanner.
Harvick is fun to listen to as well, but I am disappointed in RCR losing GM Goodwrench as a Primary Sponsor. I still miss that Black GM #3 car each race.
Tony is typically pretty quiet unless someone pisses him off.
Jimmie Johnson - 2006 Champ and also a huge fan favorite.
Waltrip? Sell out! Earnhardt gave him a chance - He won a few races yet he really does suck as a driver.. Toyota only took him because of his marketablilty and ties to Darrell.. We'll see how much an endless supply of $$$ improves his driving. :)

I hope they don't use much of a delay. I plan on using a second receiver to put Hotpass up side by side with the HD broadcast of the race. I can see myself playing with the pause and play on the DVR to get the race to sync up with the Hotpass. Then have to do it all over again if I stop or rewind.

I believe your wrong about a sixth driver chosen by the fans as neither D* or NASCAR has ever said that. The 5 drivers are selected by D* and NASCAR. Cadet502 has the drivers for Daytona correct. up as 1 pay for 49.50? They lady on the phone said that the early bird offer
ended yesterday so it should be $49.50 x 2.

yep.. showed up as just "$49.50"... printed it out and everything.

The Earlybird offer was actually $79, so I wonder if some people are gonna get away with paying $39.50 for it?

oops.. it was the Change Programming statement that showed up as 1 payment.. the actual bill showed up as 2 payments! I got them to cancel it.

You would think they would rather have my 50 Bucks, rather than none at all, but apparently not. oh well, their loss.

Ordered it the day before the Early Bird ended by remote. Emailed them to verify if all was correct and they verified its $39.50. 2 Pay.
