I must start by saying I do not know anything about how the SMART CARD works...just that it stores the information about your account. I recently exchanged a DISHPLAYER 7200 with DISH NETWORK and when they sent me the new receiver, an extra SMART CARD was in the box. Is is worth anything to anybody? The number on the card is S 00 1407 5298 13. Let me know at..

I dont think it will work with another receiver but not sure. I would return it to Dish Network unless you could use it with another receiver. Never heard of this happening before.

Smart cards are "Married" to a reciever once activated. Not sure if that one ever was.

Dish network cards are "married" to the reciever. That keeps them from being copied a billion times. Call up dish, they will either want you to return it or throw it away.

While it is true DISH cards are "married" to the receiver, they can be "remarried" to another receiver with NO problems by just calling DISH & having them "remarry" your existing receiver to your NEW card, just like DTV does. (This is assuming, of course, the card is NOT in use on another account) I've done this a few times to replace a customer's bad card with a new one, because there was nothing wrong with the receiver.
