I got my HR20. The question is this. Can I take the old HR10-250 to my dads and activate it so he can enjoy HD. He currently has a standard hughes unit. Can we use one of his access cards or the one currently in the DVR which was on my account until I had it deactivated.

I did this with an SD system recently for my Dad. Believe it or not, the easiest thing will be to switch out one of his old receivers. You will have to have it removed from your account first, then when you switch one of his receivers, they will use the same access card that was in his old receiver. It gets complicated (but doable) to use an access card that was not already on his account.

Also make sure he has a 3LNB dish. That's needed to get the HD signals. A dual or single LNB will only give you SD signals.

He does have the 3 LNB dish. He is only about 7 miles from the ALL local stations antenna farm so he will be OTA all the way.
I'm pretty sure it depends on what customer service rep. you get. You may have to wait till they mail you a new access card and charge you $20 for it. Everyone's experience seems to be different.

You should have them [D*] transfer you to the access card department. They will do wonders for you compared to the usual CSR.
