Tonight ( Tues. ) I'm trying to watch the college bowl game on my local Fox HD channel-45 in Baltimore. The picture is horrible, blurs in and out, colors fade. It's the only channel I'm seeing this on so I'm assuming it's Fox or the local. The standard def. channel of Fox/45 is fine also. Is anyone else seeing this?

I know this doen't help, but FOX 5 out of D.C. looks O.K.
So maybe it is a local issue w/ Fox 45.

Maybe its not related but I had the same problem this weekend with ABC HD over D*. When I switched to my OTA ABC affiliate in HD it was fine. Colors were fading everything was going blurry. It was the same story on both my h20 and HR20. Sometimes we just get bad feeds.

Sounds local, because all Fox games have been near perfect in Dallas.

I would doubt it's the affiliate due to the Fox splicer system they use for distribution. The local affiliate has little control (read as ability to screw up) over the HD feed.

While I've not heard from our local FOX, I have heard about the splicer system. I wonder if the splicer system can be affected in ways our local NBC station has been with external devices losing sync over time and therefore cause various, who-knows-what issues.
Cheers,
Tom

My understanding of how the splicer system works is the feed is sent encoded to the affiliate where they simply pass it on. Like I said before, the affiliate has very little control over that feed. They can add a local bug in the corner to replace the standard Fox bug and insert commercials. I haven't heard of any Fox affiliate inserting weather graphics or any other crawls, but I'm not saying they can't.

I'm assuming it was because the next morning everything was normal of course the program I was watching wasn't in HD itself but the channel was fine, So either the Fox feed which isn't likely since you didn't have an issue or the local 45. I see and hear a lot of strange things on that station!!

Well it's happening again on tonight's ( Wed. ) college bowl game. I've not seen a picture like this on any channel or broadcast before. I've sent an email to Fox 45 about it. I can't believe this is related to the HR 20 receiver since this is the only channel this is occurring on. Anyone else seeing this?

Sorry pappa, still good here. Try AVSforums at the link below and look for the Baltimore thread.

You are not the only one. I had to switch to the non-HD channel also. I noticed earlier today that Fox 45 was doing the same thing. Not sure if its local or DirecTV problem.

I noticed the problems with both last night's game and the game tonight. Thankfully they finally got the OTA functioning of the HR20 working, as that's what I'm using to watch the game right now. However, I hope this gets fixed for Monday's big game and then when 24 gets started. I'm surprised at what a joke this picture is. Also, the game on Monday night worked fine, so this is something recent.

I'm getting the nearly unwatchable picture, too. Must be Fox45 locally, I guess... Bummer, I was looking forward to the game in HD tonight!
I just (9:45pm) talked to DirecTV and they said they are having a problem broadcasting Fox 45 in HD. It is work perfect for OTA, sorry to the folks that rely on DirecTV's Hd signal. They are working it but there is no estimated repair time.

I too was getting horrible reception while trying to watch one of the bowl games on Fox in HD the other day (it was almost like the HR20 box was freezing up - everything was running slow with almost complete audio dropout).
Good to hear that it's probably not my box though.

It's not just your affiliate. FOX40 KTXL in Sacramento, CA looks like a snowy UHF analog picture. But when I switch to my OTA everything looks just fine.
Having other issues with our CBS affiliate. Picture pixelates as if it were OTA and a bad signal.
