I'm just curious, how many other people like me only keep DirecTV since they are the only ones who have the NFL package. My girlfriend has Optimum and she can order movies on demand, her DVR actually records and she doesn't need to reset it twice a day. I would of cancelled DirecTV along time ago, they are smart holding onto the NFL package for dear life.

No I do not watch football but have been a subscriber to D* for over 11 years. Always liked their service. Now I am continuing to stand by them until my current 2 year agreement expires in about 8 months.
If they do not have their act together by then I`m gone.

I do believe that many subscribers are staying with D* for their football package and without it D* would be hurting badly now

My reasons for not leaving DirecTv are as follows:

1. Don't want to give up my Directivos
2. Price compared to local cable
3. NFL

Once the Tivos die, I may reconsider.

Reasons I would leave:

1. No confidence in DTV hardware
2. Lack of Comcast Philly (Comcasts fault not DTV)
3. Price/Bundle

It's not quite as cut and dry as you poll. I do have the NFL ST and that's a big reason for me to stay, but I've had Dish before and had nothing but problems. Dropped them after the one year commitment. When I had Adelphia, I had more loss of signal than I do with D*. And I've heard people with Time Warner complain about their DVR and service and it would be at least $20 more per month. So really, while I am mostly satisfied with D*, they really are the lesser of 3 evils.

As an apartment dweller with some personal and lease restrictions on antennas and programming sources, Dish is my only other option for HD content beyond local broadcasts, which are a little problematic. So D* keeps my business, at least for now.

NFL ST is the ONLY reason that I stay with D*. I also have digital cable and an OTA antenna. I really would like to do away with the digital cable however, it's the only way I can watch many SD programs on big screen plasma with any decent PQ. The PQ on most SD channels just sucks. I hate soft and compressed signals and it's absoutely the worst on D*. Hopefully the new birds will improve the compression problems that we all experience.

Absolutely the only reason I stay with D is the Sunday Ticket. That being said, i'm pretty happy with them all things considered, but my wife hates the fact we dont have indemand like the Cable companies provide.

I think D* knows this, hence they pay billions to keep it...

Um, can't you just order NFLST from D* and not subscribe to any other packages? My ex roomte used to do this, but I don't know if it's possible anymore. He had Comcast and a Dish installed just for NFLST.

Why is it that these general polls show up in the HR20 section?

No--but it is a big reason I haven't at least strongly looked at other possibilities, from time to time. I probably still wouldn't have changed, cuz I've been happy with the overall customer service.

Cheers,
Tom

Hmmmmmm....good question. There's more where that one came from too. :eek2:

I haven't dropped DirecTV for a couple reasons (well the main reason is because I'm happy with the service I get).

1) Cable here sucks
2) Dish does things like drop Court TV with no notice.

I switched from Dish to DTV specifically to get the NFLST, but that isn't the only reason I would keep DTV.

Dish Network is a good service for the most part, but you never know when some of you favorite channels will be shut off.

I wouldn't switch to cable unless there were no alternatives. While the HR20 has problems, at least I don't get gouged on the pricing. I don't pay anything extra for my DVRs, whereas Comcast would gig me for an extra $15/month to have 2 DVRs. And while they like to promote their bundled services, I would pay more for their cable modem service than I pay for DSL. Video-on-demand is another area the cable companies are trying to use to differentiate themselves from satellite, but I would rather have a good DVR service than VOD.

For the most part, DTV is a great provider of TV service. They just need to clean up these DVR problems.

This is a poorly worded poll, with not enough choices rfeflecting other viewpoints. It assumes that everyone answering it is thinking of cancelling D*. I see no choice that reflects my situation. It's basically like asking a person, "When did you stop beating your wife?"

How else do you want it worded ? I don't care about why else you would or wouldn't want to cancel DirecTV. I want to know if the NFL package being on DirecTV is the only reason your staying.

I didn't stop beating my wife eat, she keeps burning my toast.

No, actually it is the hope that D* will be first with HD versions of the other sports "passes" that is keeping me around for now.

I seem to be in the minority, but I like my DirecTV service. Yes, I get SundayTicket, but even if it was available on cable or Dish I would stay.

Well....the NFLST was certainly the reason why I signed up w/ D* 11 years ago and will continue to thru 2010. After that, I just don't know. For the pounding and criticism there customer service takes I really don't have any complaints. I aslo get EI and there's talk o D* being exclusive for that-possibly.
yep! come 2010 it's gonna be interesting. RIght now I go where NFLST goes.

My answer was NO, but I'm close to being a yes. ST combined with the number of receivers/DVRs I own keep me with DTV for now.

Its more than poorly WORDED. There are an infinite number of reasons why people choose/stay with a specific provider. Maybe some now will switch TO D* to get CourtTV. lol.

Seems Echostar is always waiting until AFTER their contracts expire with networks, they seem to have a habit of dropping channels and THEN negotiating with them. I don't like that tactic much really.

I had TW cable since the mid 80's until I got D* about 10 years ago. To this day I wish I had switched to D* sooner!!!!!!!!!!

Been with D* for 9 years now, it isn't perfect but what other option is ?

As relocated Ravens fan, the NFLST is a must have.

The reason I won't leave is early termination fee and my DTIVO.

If Comcast gets T* I might leave.

Nope they don't allow it as a stand alone service anymore.

I voted no.

I am 2 months into my first experience with DirecTV and am generally happy.

I have paid a little more then I want to but I like my HD channels and am banking on the new ones coming soon.

My HR20 records just fine. I have reset it due to a lockup twice since september. Both times IN september. Never used on demand stuff when I had cable. Sounds like you are another one who has to whine to an audience. Have you ever tried getting a room full of people to listen to a rant like that? You should consider utilizing the knowledge base in these forums to assist in solving your problems rather than wasting the vast amount of brain power on stories about your girlfriend's DVR and on-demand movie viewing ability.
