I have an oval 3 lnb dish, I just got the hd receiver without dvr. Do I need a multiswitch to get the hd to work? If yes, what kind, I have a 5x8 multiswitch, but don't want to install if I can't use

The only reason for a seperate MS is to feed more receivers. Each DVR takes 2 feeds. A simple HD NON DVR receiver needs only one. The 3LNB dish has 4 feeds possible. If your need more than 4 feeds, then you will need a MS. The 3 LNB dish will receive D* present HD programing (without locals). Later this year, we may have more sats and if so, the 5 LNB (AT9 or the Slimline will need to be installed. If you are in an area where HD locals via sat are available, you may want to upgrade dishes now.
Hope this helps.

I hooked up the hd box, but it doesn't receive the hd channels, and when I set it up, it can only find the 101 sat. not the other two

Are you running a cable directly from the 3 LNB dish to the receiver (no splitters)? Did you run the receiver setup for the correct dish type? How did you align the dish?

Do you have any other receivrs that are already working? If so, are they set up for single round dish, or oval dish? If oval, check channels 490 through 494. Each should give you a banner indicating the satellite, polarization and voltage for that channel.

I have two older receivers. I have 3 lines coming out of the dish (I know there is 4 lines that could come out. 2 go upstairs and the third use to be hooked up to an older receiver. I just got the h20 hd, and when I set it up, it asks what kind of dish, i enter in the oval 3 lnb, then it asks what kind of multiswitch 4x4 or 6x8, and I don't have a multiswitch on it at all.

The dish was alligned, I may just need to adjust it. Yes I set it up for the 3 lnb oval dish, but it asks what kind of multiswitch do I have 4x4 or 6x8? I don't have one at all

I will check that, I think they are still set up for oval, that is what I had, then added a 3rd receiver a while back, and just got the new dish, I don't think I ever changed the setup on the others. Could it be an alignment problem?

It could be an alignment problem.

As to multiswitches, the 3-LNB has an internal (built in) 5X4. You are not using any external multiswitch, so you an select none if it asks you.

It doesn't give none as an option though, just 4x4 or 6x8

When I set up my H20, I used 4x4.

It must be an alignment problem then, it is only finding 101 sat. and like 50% on each also
