Just had a 622 installed on Saturday. All went well except when I tried to call out on my phone and lost mu dial tone. I unplugged the 622 phone line connection and the dial tone returned. I don't want the $5/month charge so I replaced it the next dya and it seems to be ok now.

My question is, Was it because it was the initial "setup" and authorization etc. that tied up my phone line or will this happen regularly? I still don't understand the requirement for the mandatory phone line connection...

As a side note, the installer was awesome, replace all my LNB's with DP grade, cleaned up all the "spagetti" from previous installs and gave me the 2 DP34 switches I need for future expansion.

Are you using a wireless phone jack by any chance? I have had the wireless phone jack I use for my 622 connection prevent a dial tone on handsets. I just had to reset the wireless jack base. Other than that, no problems with the phone connection.

fishhead65,

I had a similar problem shortly after my install when I went to move the power inserter into another room. I unplugged everything and after moving the power supply and reconnecting all the wires I lost the dial tone. I unplugged the phone cord (going to the 622) from the wall plate I got the dial tone back. After some more troubleshooting, I found I plugged the phone cord into the ethernet jack and not the phone jack on the back of the 622.

If the installer performed a phone test and it was good, that isn't the problem. But perhaps it was in the wrong jack since the install and when you replaced it into the correct jack, all is good. Other than a (roughly) 1 minute a month call at 2am, my 622 hardly ever touches the phone connection.
