I just upgraded to a 622 from my 942. I have been searching and reading a lot, and I guess I have to pose the question now.

I have a several programs (both SD and HD) that I would like to keep if possible. However, I think my options are rather limited. Someone please give me some good news that I will be able to transfer my data from the 942 to the 642. -I was just reading about the USB transfer, but I don't want to hold onto my 942 for 6+ months....

Are the hard drives compatible (a swap maybe)? Do I have to buy a pocketdish to do this?

I can't be the first person to wonder.
Thanks in advance.....

No transfer available between the two, I also believe the 622 Hard Drive is bigger then the 942 so not sure if you'd want to try that. The Pocketdish cannot take transfers of HD programs as of yet (at least that is the last I heard.) You might want to check into a DVD recorder for the programs.

And even if you could transfer HD to a PocketDish, the PocketDish is one-way only... you cannot transfer from a PocketDish back to your receiver.

Since the ViP622 does not accept analog OTA input, there is no known way to transfer recordings to a ViP622 from another receiver.

Is it possible totransfer the files from the hard drive of the 942 to a computer, then copy them to the 642's?

You may be able to transfer the files to a computer, you will not be able to transfer them to the 622. Dish has come out with a external Hard Drive, but am not sure about transfering files between different receiver nor when they will be available to the public.
