View Full Version : MPEG4 or MPEG2?
I've tried to find an answer to this but have failed. How do you know which channels are broadcasting in either format?
Thanks!

I believe only local channels (< 99) are in MPEG-4 now. I know in LA, the ones listed as LAx (ie LA2 for CBS) are SD MPEG-2 and the one listed by their station ID (ie KCBS) are MPEG-4.
Right now only the local channels in Hi Def are in MPEG4 (not all channels <99). And, only feeds that are being sent over one of the new satellites (99 and 103). As additional hi-def channels are added to the DirecTV lineup, they will be in MPEG4 (local or national feeds).

RSNs are also MPEG4
RSNs are also MPEG4
And just when I thought I had all of the acronyms down....
What does RSN stand for? (please note, my fairly newbie status on this forum)
Regional Sports Network. Not sure about them being mpeg4 though - honestly don't know.
