Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Receives Order for Satellite Communications Equipment From DIRECTV


MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (NASDAQ: CMTL) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., received an order for approximately $1.0 million from DIRECTV. The order is a component of the previously announced volume purchase agreement for a minimum of $3.5 million over two years.

Included in the order were Comtech EF Data’s DVB-S2 Modulators and 1:1 Redundancy Switches, which will be deployed to power DIRECTV’s high-definition television (HDTV) uplink services. The Modulators are based on the emerging satellite transmission standard, DVB-S2, which enables link performance optimization.

Earl. Two questions.

Is this new technology?

Is this equipment to support uplinks to the new sats, old sats or both?

I don't know any more then what is in the press release.

My "read" into it...

1) Newer Technology (regarding the DVB-S2 Modulators)
2) And it is most likely the for the uplink centers for the new Sats
