News coverage about the Sept. 11 attacks on America and their aftermath dominated the 23rd annual Emmy Awards for broadcast journalism and documentaries.

The Public Broadcasting Service garnered a total of 14 trophies, one of them for a "Nova" segment on biological terrorism, though commercial broadcast networks dominated the awards' marquee categories, led by CBS with seven prizes.

CBS' honors included awards for a CBS Evening News report by correspondent Byron Pitts from the "ground zero" site of the World Trade Center collapse on the day of the Sept. 11 attacks and a "Sunday Morning" interview with a former Windows on the World chef who lost his staff in the 9/11 attacks.
