I was wondering if I could use the hr20 remote to conrol the volume on my Bose surround sound. The Bose remote is a rf style and I also set the hr20 remote to rf. I tried the one code in the setup guide under "bose" but it didnt work. I tried it in both rf an ir and niether worked??

You should post this in the general forum and make sure you have the remote control model number.

The model numbers are different.

The remote will control some of the Bose products if the Bose is set for IR. You can get a listing of all the codes at http://directv.com/manuals by selecting the remote control manuals. The RC32RF codes may not work on the RC24, but I would try them.

I have not been able to get the RC24 HR20 remote to work on my Bose Lifestyle 48 set to IR on the Bose. I use my Harmony 880 and 890 for total control.

I just read about the 880. It said it only works in ir. how can you use it for the Bose system. My Bose is rf only

Aha the 890:)

No, 890 isn't controlling his LS48 directly via RF. The LS48 accepts both IR & RF signals, The 890 is controlling the LS48 via IR, but uses it own RF frequency to do it from afar.

ALL RF universal remotes are IR only controlling remotes, the only RF frequency it knows is its own. Which it uses to communicate between the remote and it the RF basestation. The basestation in turn changes it back to IR, then delivers it via front firing emitter or over emitter cables to the front of each component.

I have a Proview 32" LCD TV which I bought from Costco about 1 year ago. How often or if ever does DTV update their codes in the HR20? It is frustrating to have to use 2 remotes. Everytime there is an update I anxiously look to see if the Proview code has been added to the setup. Any answers?

I believe this receiver mimics Pilot brand receivers.

I have the same problem with my Norcent 3250 TV which I love by the way. The two listed codes do not work. Does anyone have any suggestions for that brand. Thank you all.

Yea, I asked that same question only to learn that the codes are in the remote. So there is no HR20 update that will affect the remote codes. The only solution is another remote or buy an updated remote from D*, and they probably will not guarantee the remote will control other equipment.

OK, now I'm confused. Does the RC32RF come with IR emitters? If not, how does it operate separates like the TV, DVD or Stereo that are only compatible with IR, when the remote is in RF mode? If my components are in a cabinet, will the remote work them?

I am running a Bose Lifestyles 25 (RF) in my hearthroom for the kids that is inside a solid cabinet along with a Sony DVD and the HR20. Will the RC32RF operate them all, including the Bose, which is also RF?

Thanks in advance to Edmund "the remote master", and anyone else who can help a newbie.

The only component a directv RF remote can control via RF is a directv receiver. All other devices on the remote are IR, the MUTE & VOLUME keys in the directv device are IR.

Sorry but only remote to ever control that bose LS is bose oem remote.

The white directv RF remotes only know one RF frequency, their own which they can only communicate with following directv receivers H10, H20, HR20,and R15.

The white directv RF remotes can only control older RF directv receivers from RCA, Sony, and Hughes by IR only. Because they use different RF frequencies from each other and from the current RF receivers listed above.

So, when in RF mode, the remote operates RF and IR simultaneously (without switching back and forth) depending on what button (function) you press. And, since the other components are IR, I still need emitters to work them inside a cabinet. Assuming that I understand this correctly, it sounds like all I would be gaining is backlighting and the distance on the HR20 exclusively? (back lighting alone might be worth it)

yes, but the emitters are not coming from any directv devices. If you have to control any components in a cabinet you will need an aftermarket solution, either wired or wireless. In that case your directv would have to be set to IR, just like your bose, the only remote that will communicate with directv receiver via RF is the RF oem remote.

I have an hr10-250 direct tv tivo and just added an hr20-100.
My new remote will not control the volume at this point.
I have my volume vis-a-vie my Yamaha av/receiver which I've used for years with the hr10 - no problem

I went into the remote programming option and got the new remote to function insofar as turning the Yamaha on and off but when following the instructions to set it to control volume it will not cooperate.

Note that my remote for the hr10 controls my new receiver (hr20) no problem even though I did not program it to do so.

Any suggestions?

I also have a Yamaha receiver, and I'll tell you, there is nothing in the RC34 codes that will control it, I've tried. I have an RC64 and haven't tried that yet.

I can get the volume for your yamaha receiver, but not both on & off power commands. first there has to be a tv code programmed to the tv device, your's or any tv code. Using yamaha code 30176, do the following;

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 9 9 3
4. press SELECT

Try code 20695 on either AV1 or AV2, with some tv code programmed to the tv device, to punch through the volume to all devices:

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 9 9 3
4. press SELECT

and yes they wil have to abandon the TV device, or upgrade to the rc64 series, it has more tv/dvd loaded to the tv device then previous remotes.

Hi

Pardon me for this hijack but I searched around for the answer to this and I am still not sure. I am upgrading from my current H10 and two HR10-250's next week and currently all three of them are on the same whole house IR system without any conflicts (I use two different TIVO codes and the standard DTV H10 code). I will be getting an H20 and two HR20-XXX's. I know that the HR20's have the availability for two different control codes but are the code sets for the H20 and the HR20 the same, if so does the H20 provide for control of two devices with the second one being a different code set than the second HR20 codes. If not this is going to be interesting to say the least. Thanks in advance for the help.

Also, statik, when following the programming steps for the universal remote to a TIVO - the steps say to press the power button. Dont worry if nothing happens because TIVO's dont have a power button anyway!

Simply try "List" or "Guide" after to see if it works.
