When the hard drive in my HDVR2 croaked, I allowed DirecTV to send me an R-15 as a "replacement". After about a month, I realized that that was a piece of junk and decided to put a new hard drive in my HDVR2 and just move the R-15 to the bedroom in place of the old non-DVR receiver there. At least you can pause and rewind the darned thing. So that's what I did. I've got the DTivo in the main media room and the R-15 in the bedroom. I'm happy.

Then I got my first bill. They are charging me two $5.99 DVR fees. So I called and talked to a ditsy CSR who assured me that because the R-15 and DTivo use different serivces, if I have one type of each receiver, I have to pay the fee twice. Is that for real? It's always been one DVR fee for however many DVRs you have. After being put back on hold and waiting 45 minutes to speak to someone else, I finally gave up and hung up.

But before I call back to complain (again), is this really the case, or did I just have a stupid CSR?

At most 1 DVR fee. (Waived for top two levels of Total choice: Platimun/premier or Titanium).

There will be a Lease or additional receiver for each receiver on your account, waived for the very first receiver on your account.

cheers,
Tom

One small caveat: I think the original Ultimate TV DVR was a separate DVR fee--but try to find one these days...

There should be just one DVR Service Fee per account ($5.99). Additional receiver (or 'leased receiver') fees are $4.99 a month and as tibber mentioned, apply to each receiver beyond the first one.

The CSR was "mis-informed" :). Call back and talk to another, and if you get the same response, ask to talk with a supervisor.

I agree with the other answers, but I want to make sure you understand that you may have two DVR services listed on your bill. One should be charged at $5.99, the other should be listed as being for "multiple DVR households" and be a $0.00 line item.

You should only be paying one DVR fee for all DTivos or DirecTV DVRs on your account. If you have a UTV then the monthly fee is $9.99 and is indeed separate from the standard DVR fee.

I have one Tivo (HR10) and two R15's and my bill always shows just one DVR charge of $5.99. I've never had a "multiple DVR houshold" listing on my bill.

I have 1 HR20 and 2 Directivos. One fee. Dish Network, on the other hand charges a DVR fee for each receiver.

That's something new. It only showed up on my account after I made some equipment changes.
