View Full Version : HDMI Cable Included?
Hello
Just had a question regarding HDMI cables. I THINK that I have read here of people receiving this cable with their new units, but when I got mine last month, I did not have this cable.
Did I get hosed on this or is this normal?
Thats all...thanks!

My original HR20 had no cable, the replacement had a cable. I think it's just a crapshoot.

New HR20 installed 12/27 included HDMI cable.
Mine did not come with a cable - neither did the replacement.
If you need one - check out monoprice.com for reasonable prices.

Mine didn't come with a cable, either. I wonder why some do? Very strange.

It's my understanding that the installer is supposed to supply the HDMI cable; at least that is what DTV's installer video says the installers are supposed to do. I did not get the cable either but I already had one installed from my HR10, so it did not matter to me.

Well, even if they do supply the cable, it's not like it's going to be a high quality 1, right? You're probably going to want to buy a decent cable anyway...I mean, it IS HD, right?

It is HD, but HDMI is a DIGITAL signal, which means it's far less affected by "cheap" cables as a digital signal can afford a fair amount of loss and still maintiain 100% of it's information. This is not true for Component cables which are analog and every bit of loss equals a loss picture quality.
Cheap HDMI cables are the only way to go. And paying more than $20 for an HDMI cable (under 12 feet that is) is the only way to go. Paying more just means you've been had.
If you want a cheap cable locally, buy the $33 cable at Wal-Mart. And stay as far away from the idiots at best buy and circuit city who want to make $50 profit from their HDMI cable sales.

XtremeMac just introduced a $19.95 HDMI cable in conjunction with the AppleTV. You can find it on their website. My guess is an excellent cable for a good price.

My HR20 I got from Best Buy last week included a cheap HDMI cable (no gold plating, no EMI ferrites, thin, 6ft). There was also a yellow HDMI sticker on the box.

Buy one from an on-line source. Most local stores like Best Buy, or Circuit city charge 5x+ the on-line prices.
HDMI is a parallel digital protocol, meaning it is pretty hard to make a cable so poor it won't work.

If you buy one, call DTV and have them reimburse you for it. That's what I did.
My original lacked a cable, but the replacement had one.

The box doesn't come with an HDMI cable, but my installer provided one for free.

Mine had a HDMI cable in the box. But my neighbor, who got his HR20 installed the same day right after me, did not have one in his box even though both boxes had the yellow HDMI sticker.

When the installer was here, He gave me 2 HDMI to DVI cables free and also gave me an extra HDMI. I then decided to change out the recever in my bedroom and when it came I had to go by a 60.00 HDMI to DVI cable. I could have got it online for 20 but had some best buy rewards coupons I had to use up.

Monoprice sells HDMI cables for less than $7. They work fine.

I think the techs grab them, and when they tell you you must have one, they'd be happy to sell it to you. I really had a battle, when I said I'd be fine with the component cable for now.

I think you could have gotten it at Wal-Mart for $25.
