What do you do after a forced update that you admit, probably does nothing but you do it superstitiously anyway?

For example: For the last three updates, after the HR20 is ready, I:

-reboot it again.
-check the software version.
-do a system test.
-check signal strength on both sats and both OTA tuners.
-check the list and make sure it's still there.
-check the history and make sure it's still there.

I'm thinking most of this is a waste of time but makes me feel better. What's your update superstition?

:) I do all of those except check the signal strength. I esp insist on the rbr. Like when windows instasll a SP, what does it do? Reboots. Just seems a good thing to do, and sure can't hoit!

I install it, and then just start watching.. don't test anything except my normal usage.. I do take notice if Pinky is still there though.

I guess all that I really do is check the version number. Occasionally, I check the LIST, but that is more out of a force of habit in general rather than a reboot superstition.

I check the version number and buisines as usual.

-have a beer
-watch some previously-recorded material, checking trickplays along the way
-record some new MPEG4 & MPEG2 material, then play it back, trickplay test again
-record at least 3 channels of OTA material, then play it back, trickplay test again
-have another beer (oops)

Test, test, test, test, test, test, test, test, test, and retest. :eek2:

Head hits the pillow. :D

Anyone swing a dead chicken over her head?

No, but I stand on my left foot for the ones downstairs and right foot for the ones upstairs :)

On a serious side, a lot has depended on what I want to test with the release. I usually upgrade my living room where the HR20 is the secondary receiver, but I use the most to give the "everyday" test. I usually upgrade one more in my test lab the first night and the rest later. And test differences between the releases between the upgrades.

I don't re-re-reboot; I don't usually check the release after the restart, I check during download and thats about it.

Lamontcranston, fun non-poll. :)

Cheers,
Tom

I force the update, make sure the system comes up again, then usually hit "Off" on my Harmony remote. Then I go to bed. :)

Verify version.
Verify To Do list and prioritizer contents.
Redo OTA set-up to see if Chicago channel 2-1 is live yet; check OTA signal strength on a couple of other channels.
Verify HD w/ DD on Sat and LIL if possible; verify often-used satellite channels, check premium channels.
Bug specific testing (e.g., can I scroll up when setting favorite channels, which was broken at one point).
Miscellaneous testing - record, playback, trick play, etc.
See if they've put in DLB yet. :nono2: :( (:D)
Unplug for 5 minutes
Plug in, boot, check To Do list again.

Anyone want to take a guess at what I do?

(Pound on all the color buttons trying to get one of them to switch me to the other tuner.) :D

I usually smoke a fine, hand-rolled cigar while the S/W is downloading. :hurah:

I am too much of an engineer...

I want baseline data just before the download to compare with data just after the download. Signal strength can be reduced 50% or more due to atmospheric conditions from a previous day.

Before Download:
1. Record all OTA signal strength.
2. Record 10 different Sat transponder signal strength readings (always the same)
3. Count shows in To Do and Prioritizer.
4. Look at every menu to refresh my memory about old memus.

After Download:
1. Reboot again without 0 2 4 6 8. You will have to reboot again. Might as well get it over.
2. Menu> Help & Setup > Setup > Info to verify version.
3. Compare all OTA signal strength.
4. Compare the 10 different Sat transponder signal strength readings (always the same)
5. Verify number of shows in To Do and Prioritizer.
6. Look at every menu to see what has changed.
7. Test Cruise Controls (Trick Play), etc.
8. Verify that Networking still works.

See if any of the main bugs are fixed...

I think we all owe you a debt of gratitude for your extensive testing. This place, and most likely, the HR20 itself, is better because of you.
