View Full Version : My luck has ended

I've been an HR20 user since Mid-Nov 2006. Didn't have a single issue, CID worked, closed caption worked, no HDMI issues, everything tuned in properly. Recordings were stable and great. The only issue (?) I had with the box was that the rewind and FF weren't as steady as the tivo.... something I could easily live with considering 1/2 the stuff I read on here.

Started with 0XFA, and then Santa came and gave my OTA. Things were still great. No issues at all.

Chancing fate, decided to go with Raven on Sat night.... upgrade went without a charm. I was hoping to get the "trickplay" feature to work. Since I am an ex-tivo guy, I loved that feature.

After the upgrade - no more caller ID working... and I got my first dead recording (Desperate Housewives on MPEG4 local). Went it to play it about 18 minutes into the recording, and it was just a black screen. Even worse, trickplay doesn't seem to function. When I hit play after FF, it stops right where I pushed it, doesn't skip the few seconds back I was expecting (like tivo).

In regards to Desperate Housewives - I quickly tuned to the channel, and luckily *had* video/sound. Tried to rewind to catch what happened earlier. No such luck. Infact, none of the "control" buttons worked. Couldn't even pause ....

Was also recording the Apprentice as well, went into that recording, it was perfect. And in "live" mode - could pause and everything.

I shouldn't have chanced my luck. No more caller ID and who know how many more f-ed up recordings :( :( :(

I suppose I could always revert, but who trusts that? :)

Instead of a RBR... unplug the unit, let it sit for a few minutes..
And then plug it back in.

Hmmm, now that sounds like an answer I'd get from DTV tech support :)

You are more reliable, so I will try it tonight after all the shows are done recording (if I do it now - the guide will likely not update in time to hit up my season passes).

I just recalled another thing I noticed. I did the upgrade Sat night. Even though the guide re-populated, several of my season passes didn't setup up again.

For example... the apprentice is in my list. When I looked in the guide, it had the X and the R - there were no conflicts, and it wasn't in my todo list.

I suggested the power down, because of your Caller-ID issue.
To give the modem hardware a chance to fully reset

I would argue that.... There are a fair amount of people that are "checking" out of the club as well..

Looking forward to the day I can check out....

They can fix the froze, black or gray screen of death, I would probably be filing my check out papers...however, seems to live with every update - only getting worse (my issue is with the MPEG 4 channels).

I have had this happen and after doing a unplug reset, everything was there including the recordings. Not so say that this will work for you but hopefully it will. :)

In a fit of rage last night, I deleted the dead recording.

But, I'm going to try the unplug tonight, hopefully I won't see more issues....

Thanks gents.

Had a wierd experience. I knew my HR20 did record something and went to history and it recorded 5 different episodes. Went to my playlist and nothinig. So I took a chance and recorded the thing I was recording and voila the rest of the recordings appeared. Weird?

Anyone else see this, or this something that has already been documented?
