View Full Version : Major Potential 24 Problem
Since 24 is such a popular show, I wanted to highlight this potential problem rather than post it in the issues thread. I am running 11b and have a season pass to 24. It is number 1 on my priority list. However, when I went to my To Do list (which I now do often since I don't trust the HR20), 24 was NOT in the To Do list (all my other scheduled recordings were there). I went to History and 24 was there and it said "Cancelled" for tonight (it always says Cancelled for a show that is scheduled to be recorded in the future). Bottom line is 11b still has big problems and if you want to watch 24 tonight, make sure it's in your To Do list. I'm getting really disappointed with this thing. Are DVRs offered by Fios, cable, Dish this unrealiable?

I have 11b, I have 24 scheduled, it shows in the To Do List for tonight and next monday.
Thanks for the heads-up. I just checked and both 24 and my other shedued series link are appearing in my To Do List.
As for the cancelled programs appearing in history. I believe they will be few and far between when the need for resets after forced downloads and/or to get functions back are at a minimum.

That sounds to me like you rebooted recently. This can happen - they will show up as "cancelled", but will still record. You can check your prioritizer and verify there are upcoming showings scheduled to be recorded.
IMHO it's just a simple UI bug that displays "cancelled" even though it will record it (missing guide info). Perhaps a better label for these could be used to reflect the fact that they are scheduled, but the guide data is missing. "Cancelled" does sound worrisome when you see it, but I am willing to bet it will record it.

The cancelled part isn't what's worrying me. It's the fact that it's not in the To Do list that's worrying me.

Unless Im totally missing it, my box has never rebooted abnormally, yet I still have "Cancelled" recordings in my History. They all recorded fine, and I always seem to have "14 days" of guide data, so Im fairly sure my unit is not rebooting.
I think someone mentioned the swirling LEDs return to full strength if it reboots, I guess I should try dimming mine and checking on them to see if they end up at full strength eventually.

I also just looked at the Prioritizer and it showed 1 episode listed - which was next Monday's episode and not tonight. It clearly messed up and hopefully Earl will be able to get an explanation (Earl - let me know if you want more info). I ended up adding it as a manual record so I won't miss it, but this really is getting ridiculous. I know many are saying 11b is good, but for me I've had lock ups and missed recordings, which is clearly very far from good.

In the History... when you bring up the entry... does it give a "reason" why it was not recording?
In the Guide did it list 24 with an R on it?
I just checked both of my HR20's and it is there on both of them as well.
Not sure on what the problem woudl be on your system.

It did NOT have an R in the guide, even though it was #1 in Prioritizer. I then added it manually to record and then it did get an R in the guide (but not a Series Link R, just a one-time R). However, at 9 est when the show was scheduled to record is still did NOT record AND it doesn't even show up at all in the History. Earl - This is really really frustrating. The Unit has to be able to record scheduled recordings. I would assume that if this is happening to me, it must also be happening to others. I've been real patient, but now I'm very close to giving up on this. BTW - The other shows I'm recording tonight are Prison Break, How I Met Your Mother, Class and Heroes (and possibly something at 10, but I don't recall).

Earl, could bad PSIP be causing these problems when recording LIL?
I dont think RMSko mentioned if he was recording OTA or LIL.
24 (OTA) recorded as planned with no noted problems. The other tuner was also recording a program (MPEG2)

I set to record 24 (OTA), and heroes HD locals from DirecTV. Heroes recorded fine, but when I went to watch 24, it instantly went to the end where it asks if you want to delete it or not. When I say don't delete and try and play it from my list again same thing. Instantly I get the do you want to delete menu. Is there any way of saving this recording. When I turned on my tv tonight I noticed that it was on the station recording 24, and my list said it was recording, but when I went back to it, it was gone.
I've noticed over the past week about 4 recordings that are doing this exact same thing. When you go to watch the episode, it instantly asks if I want to delete it. I haven't had any problems (until about a week ago, when episodes were new again, and I started recording heavily), and I've had it for about 3 months now.

Which SW version are you using?

Sorry - I should've said that the 24 Series Link that did not work tonight was on the MPEG-4 FOX station out of NY. Interestingly, it was only this one episode. Next week's episode is in the To Do list so I have no idea what happened tonight or why it failed to even execute my manual recording. Again, it was only this one show. All my other recordings, which were also on the NY MPEG-4 stations, recorded fine. Fortuntely, for tonight's 24 episode I checked about 5 minutes into the show and noticed it wasn't recording and was able to just hit record and it worked. I just finished watching and I'm glad I was able to record it since it was another excellent episode.

my hr-20 recorded 24, prison break and heroes as well. when i finished watching heroes from the play list and went to delete the show, the box locked. after a soft reset to unlock the box, i went to my play list to discover that NEITHER 24 nor prison break were there! i am running version 10b.
a call to dtv said they are "aware of the problem" and a tier 2 tech rep suggested that i re-format the box, to get it back "to spec".
this is the second time in a week that this has happened, the last time being last monday with the season premier of 24.
having had tivo for almost 6 years before replacing them (3) with the hr-20 on 12/24, i am more than just a bit disgusted.
suggestions anyone?
Great, my 24 was corrupted. Black screen when trying to play and after reboot, poof! It's gone.
24 recorded with no problem for me using the NY MPEG4 FOX station. So did Prison Break. Heroes and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip on NBC also recorded without incident. I haven't tried CSI Miami or The Class yet. All SLs are on the NY MPEG4 stations. I'm running 11B.
I guess that means the 24 problem was not with the local station feed.

hmmm. i just checked my second hr-20 (on which i set a back-up season pass because of the lost premier last week) and that DID record 24, whereas my den hr-20 did not. both have 010b.
i used to be a tivo beta tester back in the day so i'm used to having "issues" in the infancy stage. i just can't remember THESE issues...

now i forced the v.011 download on the troubled den hr-20, and can give a good comparison b/w that and the bedroom's 010b.
i'll keep rooting for the home team!

I am having this problem with Law And Order...Its number one on my priority (tnt-hd) yet I have ZERO in my LIST. The show is on like 10 times a day.
After installing the new versions do I need to delete my entries on my list and recreate them?

Spunky, I just forced a software update and went from 10b to 11b...all the sudden my Law & Orders all show up...
So, I recommend trying to update right now if you can to 11b and it should help

"Previously on 24...%@$$%@$##@>>@#$@!!!!"
I got home a half hour ago, excited to watch 24 and got about as far as that before it went all green pixels and froze on black screen. Rebooted once to no avail. So cranky am I...

I would be too, I am fortunate enough to have a HR10 and only trust the HR20 to movies and the news except when I need a third tuner occasionally.

I've had mine for two days now... the one show it has to record is 24! Of course no 24!!! Man this sucks! Why most we pay for this crap? We should get a refund for every show this junk box does not record!!
