View Full Version : Two Dumb Questions

Sorry, but just want to make sure:

1. I know AT-9 is the "old" 5LNB dish. The "new" 5LNB that I refer to as the Slimline is also called the AU-9, is that correct? I also saw someone mention an AR-9, but I assume that was a typo.

2. On OTA, the HD channels are X.Y rather than just X, is that correct? So how do you tune to a decimal channel? I know I would plug the OTA into the OTA port on the sat box. At that point, do decimal channels appear? Sorry, I know it's a dumb question, but I'm not getting how you type in a decimal.

Please be gentle...thanks.

1. Yes, the AU-9 is the Slimline. AR-9 is a typo.

2. X-Y not X.Y There is a - button on the new Directv remotes in the lower left hand corner. When you run the setup for OTA it will find all available channels. They will then be available in your guide and favorites. I personally use a "custom 1" setup in my favorites and delete the regular SD locals from my list. This way when I do channel up/down from the remote it doesn't go through the SD locals, just the HD OTA locals.

Thanks...that makes sense. So what you're saying, though, is that while it's added to the guide, you can't go from channel 2-1 to 6-1 by typing in 6-1 (like you could for normal channels) if you're currently viewing 2-1 The only way to go there would be to either channel up until you get there or click to the guide and select it from there, correct?

Also, is there a reason antennaweb.org lists it as decimals instead of hyphens?

Yes you can change channels as you do now. Just punch in 6 then the dash button on the lower left corner of your remote the the 1 and it will take you to 6-1.

Yes, you can change channels as you do now. If you do not map the SD locals out you will go through them when you use channel up/down. An example would be my St. Louis locals starting at channel 2-1 (Local Fox HD). If I didn't map out the SD locals and pressed the channel up button it would go to 4. 4 is the SD CBS local that DirecTV sends down. If I take that channel out of my favorites it will go to 4-1 (the HD Local OTA CBS). This is just a personal preference of mine.

Also, is there a reason antennaweb.org lists it as decimals instead of hyphens?Decimals used to be the accepted way of referring to subchannels. For some reason, that seems to have changed over time. In any event, it is pretty obvious what is meant by either notation.

That clears it up for me...I really appreciate the info...now I just have to buy an OTA and hope I get reception.
