Hi all...this is my first post and an unfortunate one. I came home from work this afternoon to find the status ring(blue lights) rotating clockwise and no signal from my Receiver to my TV.
I tried:
1st: Unplug and plug in restart.
2nd: Little Red Button Reset.
3rd. Called DirecTV and tried a HDD Reformat.
Each time I reset I get the Blue Screen that says it is booting, and then another that says just a few seconds..almost there.... and then...BLACK!!!
DirecTV is sending me a new receiver via FedEx...but I'm a little frustrated as probably many of you are...
Tomorrow night is the NHL All Stars game and I was really looking forward to watching it in HD on my 52in DLP Tv...Dang it!!
Have any of you had this happen, and know of a work around??
Any help would be greatly appreciated, not sure if the software update made it through last night or not..or may have caused it.
THanks,
Toolrat

1080i but the unit is totally unresponsive and it will not let me change the resolution.
Also, I should mention that my TV shows component 1(display shows there is no input from the receiver)

I guess unplug for 15 minutes of so and hope for the best...

Toolrat, welcome to the forums! :welcome_s
If you don't have a resolution mismatch, and you've tried component instead of HDMI, you might try a re-force of the software. As soon as you see the first "welcome" screen, press the numbers 0 2 4 6 8 in a slow deliberate sequence (no select or enter key). Perhaps there is a problem with the last attempted software load.
Good luck,
Tom

I have tried both component and composite(RCA) connections..I do not have an HDMI cable :(
I also tried the software reset and had no luck. It does show software found(011b) and that it is downloading. Once the status bar reaches 100% It oges to the almost there...few more seconds...screen and then back to Black with the TV showing component 1. And that annoying ring just rotating clockwise...
as far as the resolution mismatch, if this was causing the problem would the box be totally unresponsive..couldn't i change resolutions by pressing the RES button?
Thanks...

Yes, the RES button should work, the box should respond and the LEDs should stop spinning, I guess. I've reached my limit, perhaps someone else can help? Or maybe only hope is replace the unit.
Good luck,
Tom

I had a similar issue...but a BSOD of It's really Dead !!
Kids were watching a show...HR-20 froze.
I did the usual RBR and it never finished booting.
It did the starting up, almost there, then black screen flash then BSOD with the
lights in the front panel circling...
After 20 minutes I did the power cord reset....same thing.
Called D*TV and after trying it with them online...thirty minutes of waiting with the 2nd level tech they decided to replace the unit.
Really bummed because I lost Heros, episodes of 24 I haven't seen yet, new BattleStar Galatica, etc. To top it off I'm waiting for a replacement R-15 that won't take a software update they tried to force down.

Every one should have an H20 in reserve. ;)

I do now. I got 2 new HR20 boxes in October when I was upgraded. Last week my box (as opposed to my wife's box) died, so I ordered a new one from D*. The box came back eventually (for error reporting purposes - the box was unresponsive even after a hard reboot, but come to think of my current problems with HDMI maybe that was the case here..) Anyhow while I was waiting for the new HR20 to arrive I had D* reinstate my old DirecTivo box which I had saved after the upgrade, they didn't want it back.
Long story short, my wife now had my old DirecTivo box has hers and her box is now my "backup" along with the new one I received from D*.
Honestly since football is over after the SuperBowl, I'm debating on reinstating the other DirecTivo box and putting the HR20 in mothballs until they figure out all these issues.
Lost Desperate Housewives on Sunday to the "hit play and it says do you want to delete" bug. Wife was not happy about that one.
