Came across this in one of our two daily newspapers in Salt Lake City. Seems Hughes and Echostar are making the rounds to visit political leaders regarding the merger. Thought some of you might like to read it:

A big problem that I haven't seen addressed by either E* or D* is how they plan on addressing the ping problem. That's what's keeping me from getting the service.

I agree that lower cost will tempt more people, but IMO, the people who want high speed want it without latency, and I haven't seen anything on how the merger is supposed to help that aspect.
